AMD chipping, flash or solder?

When AMD chip an S4 do they do it via serial programing on do they solder a new chip in the ECU?

I believe AMD flash like REVO, APR do the soldering!

Not 100% though....

i was looking at an APR a while back. for cars after 99 they can do a reflash, but before its soldering. Dont know about AMD tho, may be worth giving them a call. Are you worried about insurance or something?

AmD soldered when I went there, but that was a few years ago. I would be surprised if they still do it that way.

I dunno then, but i was told that if i had a later version of the ecu used in the S4 they wouldnt have to solder it in. if that info is balls then i apologise :?

When they were at Oddington Geoff used to disappear into the house to solder !

Looking at buying a car that is AMD chipped and was wondering if I chose to get an MRC map at a later date would it cause me problems...??

no problems with a soldered chip.

had AMD chip in mine, now have MRC chip. easy to replace.
MING BLUE AUDI S4
Car is on Lock down

506.9 BHP @ 6.020 RPM
445.0 WHP @ 5.981 RPM
481.5 IBFT @ 4.976 RPM

My APR chip was soldered in, but the new chip came with a socket on it to allow any future map to be flashed.
