Crack in S4 oil sump, can it be patched?

Dont know if its an aluminium sump on the 1999 b5 S4???

If so can these be patched with something?

I'm 99.9% sure it's made of aluminium...

I would recommend TIG welding it, but I dunno how feasible it is in-situ without dropping the sump...

The sump would have to be removed as it won't weld when full of oil.
I've welded a few aluminium sumps at work, if its cast it will depend on what else is in the alloy, some contain magnesium and other crap which won't weld. If its a good quality aluminium then it should TIG weld ok, just make sure its pre heated and allowed to cool very slowly.
