Trouble working out which offset is needed!

Post by ours6hers » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:50 pm

Hi

Im wanting to upgrade my 17" OEM alloys to 19" but can't get my head around what offset is required.

The 17" i have are 255/40/17 on an 8" rim width and 35 offset. But these don't sit far enough out in the wheel arch so was thinking of getting a 255/30/19 on 8.5" rim width but get confused on what offset to get the new wheels in to fill the arches. I understand im gaining half an inch in the width but do i go up or down on the offset to stick them just on the edge of the arch?

This is the look im after really

Any help would be greatly received as i dont want to get the wrong wheels!!

I know this is an old post but just incase,

the offset you need is 29mm on an 8.5 inch wheel width, that will give the same inner clearance but shove the outer edge out by 12mm.

you can play with the measurement here:
