Hammerite on calipers

Post by david7m » Sun Aug 08, 2010 3:45 pm

Hi

Planning on brush painting (dont want to remove or mask off) the calipers gloss black. Halfords only have chav colours in the specific caliper paint. Will hammerite be able to take the heat on the front calipers?

Thanks
Dave

What colour are the calipers from the factory? On my S3 they are alloy, and not sure about going to the gloss black look as I like the standard look.

Personally I would buy proper high temp paint, there must be a reason why they make the stuff as opposed to normal metal paint. You can buy it on eBay or loads of non Max Power places like Demon Tweeks.

I have to agree on you opinion there! There's a guy up the road with a 'Smart' who's painted his tiny front caliper bright yellow - that's bad enough. He's topped the job off nicely by painting the rear drum yellow also. :?

I have to say, the previous owner of my B6 Noggy S4 painted them yellow at the front, it is on my list of things to do... gloss black is the answer I think.

I use Halfords engine and brake caliper enamel. Only £6 a tin, stays glossy and cleans easily.

If you do 2 thin coats, then a heavier 3rd coat which will flow out and leave a smooth finish. As long as you wire brush, sand back and decrease during prep the result isn't too far from powder coat

Thanks. Ended up getting Halfords High Temperature Engine paint, as they didn't have any hammerite in black. Will do tomorrow hopefully if dry.

On the B7 RS4 the fronts are already nice and shiny gloss black...they have stayed that way and look ace although i have kept them polished when i remove the wheels etc..

The rears are also gloss black from the factory but for some reason tend to fade to matt black very quickly. Ive noticed this on most B7 RS4,s.
