Whinning fuel pump

Post by david7m » Fri Jul 17, 2009 9:36 am

Its started to get a little louder. I assume this means its on the way out? What will happen, will it die a slow death, or just wont work one day?

Hi Dave, I have the same problem. I only half fill my tank now as the whine reduces as the fuel lowers. I have priced a new one at £240 from Audi. You cant get aftermarket to my knowledge.
I am going to wait another few months until the whinning gets excessive unless I am going across the water to see Grizz I will get him to fit one then

Cheers guys. I realised, when it was too late, that I hadn't had the fuel filter changed for about 40k miles :( Would this have caused excess back pressure on the pump and worn it out prematurely?

Don't Audi treat the fuel filter as a 'lifetime' item?

I had mine replaced recently after it had been doing it's thing for 10 years. Didn't notice any improvement.

Not sure. Apparently mine was blocked, which is quite suprising considering I only use premium juice and have put through a few injector cleaners.

For £35, I think I would have it done in hindsight ;)
