Preparation Of Rotors Pre Fitment?
Preparation Of Rotors Pre Fitment?
Anyone here practise this / heard of "curing" freshly manufactured rotors in an oven before fitting?
Is it a load of balls, or could this actually help longevity / effectiveness of a freshly manufactured rotor?
Cheers

I'd say about 20 mins per lb on gas mark 4! I dont know Tim first i've ever heard of it. Dont you mean conkers?

I can see that this might de-stress the casting but there is a fair possibility that the disk will then need grinding flat. But after that I'd expect it to survive better when leaned on.

Thankyou NigelJ for your considered, constructive comments
Vinny / Joshie firstly, feck off
Secondly... if it works for conkers, and it clearly does, then why not a cast iron disk?
So there we have it then. Applied conker theory. One hour in a vinegar bath, then two hours in the oven. Gas mark 4

Water off a ducks back hey Tim? Spotty dog
I would think that the material the discs are made from have undergone some sort of heat treatment while being manufactured to give them their qualities. I very much doubt the heat from your oven, even at full blast (250c) for a long period of time would effect the material to much other than make it expand slightly, this would then contract back to normal when cooled. I think the material qualities are gained by undergoing controlled cooling rates from it being extremely hot/molten rather than it being exposed to low/mid temperatures for a period of time. I may be completely wrong, would someone like to go into the finer details of disc manufacture?
Vinny.
