I can't see a downside.
Failure modes. No matter how hard you try (and I do know what I'm talking about), you cannot make any electronic device which is truly fail-safe. Thus this system has the risk (all be it hopefully a small one) that it will make an incorrect change to the ECU map and you might not know about it. The more often you upload, the greater the risk.
