Anyone had any trouble insuring a car with only brake mods?

Post by Blue_Thunder » Tue Nov 28, 2006 8:27 pm

Bought some Brembo calipers to shove on the front of my B5 S4 saloon the other day due to the factory fitted ones being dire. Thought I would do the right thing and call my insurance company to ask them if it would affect my premium. I was pretty surprised when they told me that my premium would go up by a whopping 33%!!! To put that into perspective, I could get a week's all inclusive holiday to the Maldives for that(but still wouldn't be able to stop any easier in my car)!

Apparently because I want to stop in a safer distance, I am clearly a more aggressive driver. ME!!! AGRESSIVE??? :x Seriously though, that sucks!

Has anyone else any similair trouble? FYI - I'm 26 and have 2 years no claims. If there's anyone else who found themselves in the same boat, where did you go to get your insurance?

Bad luck man, too many of them out there like that.

I am with Greenlight insurance, and have been for the last few years. There is practically nothing std on my car, and I would call my insurance cheap! 29, 8years NCB. I called them up to tell them about my new brakes, no charge. They hardly ever charge extra.

Defiantly worth giving them a call to see what they can do for you.

That is so out of order!

Try site sponsor Noel Dazely or Adrian Flux - they will do a price match.

Cheers for the info guys. I tried Adrian Flux earlier and the cheapest they could find for me was nearly £2500 through Royal & SunAlliance... the company I work for! Not a bad quote though, as I tried our staff discount line and even they couldn't offer me that! Think I might have to wait for another 10 months til my renewal is up before I add those lovely big Brembo's! :(

If you are only going to loose 2 months of anothers years NCD, I would cancel the plcy now and go elsewhere. Screw them. I was charged just an admin fee - £14 by Admiral for adding my uprated brakes. I had already declared my remap.

Stuck my details into their website last night and just got a call back. They've managed to not only match my existing renewal price (which doesn't allow for any mods and doesn't include my recent SP30), but beat that price and that will cover my mods and takes into account my SP30. :D

I'd very happily recommend Noel Dazely to anyone on this forum!

Yes, we've heard the good reports about Noel Dazely, but no bad ones (yet) - anyone tried a claim?
