Silas that Merc was a 4l V8 wasn't it? The sheer power eventually won. But the RS5 did beat them all from a stand still. But I think it just doesn't look very good.
I do like the M2 though. One of them beat me round a roundabout in the wet. My RS6 was sideways with factory pirelli on.

No went round it like it was dry and he pulled away on me as my back stepped out. I didn't suddenly boot it mid boost either. Both of us got off the same train after work and got into our cars so both sets of tyres were the same temperature. I had pirelli and assumed he was on Michelins; main point is that the chassis and tyre choice means it is just as drivable in the wet as an awd Audi (or even more drivable in this instance).

Well took one out today, I have to say west London isn't the best place to be able to put your foot down, however what I did like was the power delivery. Very instant with bags of torque, I also liked the feel of it, makes you think it's a bigger lump than a 2.5.. also the steering feel is so much better then the b8 rs4, that's the one thing I never got to like, and that the B7 does so much better...don't like the plastics on the dash, sportback I think doesn't show the arches of like saloon either.
Just waiting for BM to get me into the FL M2 next

M2's are struggling to sell (especially in LBB), so you should get a bargain. Lots of pre-LCi cars hanging around with big discounts available. I'd personally take one over an RS3 if it were a non-family car. A much better 'sports' car.

Having owned a 1M (and driven an M2) I can thoroughly recommend one of those if you fancy sticking your money on something that's arguably better than an M2, and won't hemorrhage money. The handling and steering/seat feedback is sublime, it punches well above its weight, and the N54 can be tuned to monumental performance levels. I miss mine so much, it's a proper 'M' experience car.

I have to agree KM, I was thinking about waiting for the Fl
M2 but is it worth?? Like you say I'd be more likely to get a pre-facelift bargain too.
At the end of the day the RS3 just doesn't look special enough.. much like a golf R just looks like any other golf TDI. Will be my first ever BM and I'm quite looking forward to getting the right car snapped up soon.

Forgot to mention, what did you find better on the 1M than the M2?? They have risen in price by the looks of it.. so would be a good investment car wise too.

The steering and feel didn't quite feel as connected in the M2. That's not to say the M2 is bad, I mean it's faster and a step forward from the 1M, but it's just you feel EVERY bit of feedback in the 1M. The punch from the twin turbo N54 is more aggressive also, you really feel connected to the car.

I think a 1M is good investment( maybe?) but to me the M2 just looks the part with better tech, I doubt it will stay stock for long.. will either take it to evolve or DMS for map intercooer, and DP's and give it a drop :D

p.s. I disagree about the M2's looks. The one thing that doesn't come across in any photo/video is how aggressive the 1M look in the metal. A proper sit-up and beg monster, with monster arches.... ;)

That's interesting to look at, I think for me as it's a daily
I want the M2 and I just like the more modern cabin.. all though the 1M does look nice, more so in white I think...I just prefer the M2.. now do I go Manuel or DCT?
I think a Manuel, there is just something about it you just don't get with Auto!! One thing I like is you feel the kick more in between gear changes, that are lost on a DCT

I think as a 'daily' miler the M2 is the right choice, unless it's minimal miles, just be prepared for the depreciation. Get every penny out of the deal up front and avoid LBB.

My 1M was white, with BMWP black bits. Def' the best colour of the three that were available (Black, White, Orange), even if I do say so myself. Here's some arch porn for you...

BTW, a good read here on the M2. Traders giving first hand advice on values, options etc. Hope it helps...
