The RS3 sounds even better in real life, even when you start it and it is just ticking over.

And 0-60 in 3.6 secs! That is some going!

Just think the next generation about to come out with the new TTRS engine are likely to be a pinch quicker too. I may be making the move back to a saloon but leaving a V8 behind is going to be difficult.

The sound the 5 pot makes, makes forgetting about the V8 a whole lot easier.
I wonder if the facelift 400bhp version will come in a good looking saloon version.

If it looks like this in an RS package I think I will be buying my first new car ever. Although I will wait until they show the facelift model before diving in on the one I like the most.

I love that slo-mo wheel slip.
No matter where you go, there you are.

That's the current S3 and is a very good looking car. The facelift has those zig zag lights like the B9 and the RS3 saloon shown for the US market looked awful. Hopefully the final version will make it to the UK as a saloon and look nice unlike those previews I saw.

these small super hatches are killing the bigger more expensive stuff on several fronts.

RS6 £80k+, RS3 £40k and just as fast, more or less as practical, better mpg, cheaper to insure, easier to mod.

interesting.

There is a huge difference in speed between the RS3 and RS6. Also the general feel inside the car and the toys you get is a big difference too.

Also, I paid 78k for a 94k spec RS6, the wife paid 47k for a 48k RS3 so the difference is not as much as you think.

there is also a huge difference in price and for me the RS6 is not worth £80k + had mine 8 months and pretty disappointing car.

Now I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you say that about every car you've had?

Not sure they are cheaper to insure either.

And, not really comparable in size, practicality or ultimately performance.

What the disappointing bit?? yeah I guess you are right. I am not the type to defend the car I own, its only metal and rubber. If its <beep> then its <beep>. not that I think the RS6 is <beep> by any means great car but just not for me. Stick that engine in an RS4 now that would be a car!!!

had a 535d years ago got it up to 400bhp, absolutely magic car, it lasted 2.5 years. Record for me :bigblink:

Size, practicality and performance are all down to end used requirements. My kids are all driving now so I don't need a big car so it would be practical for me. As for performance, the RS6 is mental power wise I agree, but the smaller cheaper cars are so much more fun to tune and play with??

Not found a car the ticks every box for me yet and I doubt I never will. good fun trying to find the "one" though.

GTR -R35 speed, power and handling
RS6 refinement
M5 driving pleasure and evolvement

mash them all together and what do you get?? No idea.

I liked the M5 so much but RWD in north of Scotland was wasted but then if the M5 had 4WD would it be the same fun to drive? probably not.

Back to a wee cheap car I can mess with then see what takes my fancy.

Agreed. Big size difference. Big practicality difference. Big performance difference.
Big difference in standard equipment and even small thing like the RS3 has no rear door sills and unlit front sills whereas the RS6 has front and rear lit sills, power tailgate, electric steering wheel adjustment, electric sport seat adjustment etc i.e. it is not a difference in quality but a difference in general feel of quality. The RS6 feels like it is worth a lot more than the 3 (which it is).

I don't dispute any of that, I guess it's just if you think things like lit sills and electric adjustable wheel is worth paying for?

Don't want to start an argument. I am selling my RS6 because it's not for me.
