Some times from a recent test on top gear mag done by a professional driver rather than the driver in the Evo clip.

The rs3 also blitzed the competition in a straight line. Quarter mile was 12.4 odd if I remember correctly. A45 was eliminated earlier on as the best it could manage was 4.8 to 60.

The golf R did win the test though...

The rs3 is a fair bit quicker than the a45 as standard. Quarter mile in around 12.4 odd on the strip. A45 is around 12.8, best it managed in this test was 13.3 I think. The facelift should be on par I'd imagine.

The a45 sounds good on gear change but sounds like what it is the rest of the time. A turbo'd 4 pot

Type R is an impressive bit of kit. Was on par with the a45 for 60-130 times

Also, to get golf r to the level of the rs3, spec wise: dsg, 19s leather etc you are looking at around £36000 so the difference becomes a lot smaller. The one in the top gear test £43k!

Not the best test if you watch it, bloke couldn't launch the A45 properly
Many tests have proven low 4's
I can launch my mrs better than that, and I hardly ever drive it

It doesn't matter what's quicker, because the noise the RS 3 makes is to die for. You can hear a group B S1 quattro in there somewhere. I'll admit the A45 looks much better, though.

More recently, I've been running a manual TTS, the steering, balance and drive of that blew me away, the handling is sublime. I took a mate with an M3 out in it and even he was shocked. It'll be perfect when they drop the five pot in it to make the RS.

BTW - The demand for the RS 3 has been far greater than expected, Audi can't build them fast enough.

My RS3 arrives next month, sports exhaust was first option ticked, a new order would see delivery in June next year !

Will look at the BMW m2 next I think. Missed out on the 1m so it's an itch that needs scratched!

Audi can't build anything fast enough. Useless bunch.

So I drive a Mk7R....though this evening I witnessed my first 65 reg....RS3 blipping the throttle in neutral - popping like hell! Then giving it the beans on a stretch of road. Man these sound awesome!!

My neighbour has had one for the past few weeks and was lucky enough to have a quick drive of it, awesome sound at full chat with the sports exhaust and the launch control is pretty impressive. There's a noticeable difference between a standing start and then using launch control - could feel acceleration in stomachs :). Would love to have one of these but will probably get B7 RS4 until they sell the RS3
