Went to look at an RS2 today

Post by MattyB1 » Sat Aug 20, 2011 10:15 pm

I'd say I'm a new member, but registered on here a long time ago and can't remember my old details!

Went and looked at this RS2 today:
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2847182.htm

Got to say, its a credit to its previous owner with a massive history file and lots of money spent - last service was £4200! Drove fanstastically and didn't feel like it had done its advertised 115k miles. And my thanks to Nick Johnson of the same named Motor Co, pleasure to deal with, shame I couldn't take him up of that RS4 test drive too as I was running out of time!

Off to view the famous "MJB" next weekend all being well, assuming it hasn't sold!

And I don't suppose anyone can recommend a specialist in the West Midlands area? Currently thinking of using "Midland VW" in Cannock.

Cheers!

Stealth Racing are very good.

Why not hold out for an RS Blau one?

That one's been on autotrader for months. Possibly because of the mileage.

Personally I wouldn't get it because of the colour. Like Phil I like the RS Blau.

I'm going to look at a Blue one at the weekend - the Ragusa Green is quite nice in the 'metal', but it wouldn't be my first choice I admit.

I know the above is on 115k, but seriously, you'd never know - the old adage of buying on condition (and history) holds true here, owner has clearly run it on a no-expense-spared basis, hence the price.

Yes, the mileage wouldn't bother me particularly. I know a guy who bought a lowish mileage one and it seized a few weeks later. Maintenance is king.

I wonder how practical it is to repaint these cars. I would be very tempted to get a mechanically good one and do this to it:

I think an RS2 in that colour would be stunning.

Some people (I did) prefer a stealthy colour; I think Nogaro is too "look-at-me"; the joy of an RS avant is the Q-car factor for me. If I want to be seen I'll get a 2-seater.

Ragussa's a gorgeous colour, nicer than Goodwood by miles.

Shoppint, please Do NOT repaint it in that colour ; that's a very Trev-tastic look to me and will killl the value of the car.

Yeah, I hear what you are saying. I like the Q factor of my RS6. If I were to get an RS2 however it would be as a complement to the '6. So I don't necessarily want 2 Q cars...

I do think the RS2 is suited to a more sporty image, though, I and don't believe its value would be adversely affected by painting it that Porsche colour. Quite the opposite, especially if you start with a less desirable colour.

I don't like the carbon though...

That noggy blue one is fantastic. Perfect with the blue interior, too. Good price. Tempting.

Looks like it has Dunlop 8080 tyres in 245/40ZR 17 which are not safe on the 7 inch rims. So i think you need to price in for 5 new tyres in safer 225/45zr 17

It probably needs a good look over the service history, with a view to what else may need doing (suspension, brakes etc - the expensive stuff). Still, if ll is well, with that colour, and those miles, that looks like a bargain to me. It's probably the apparent lack of history that pulls the price down from what would normally be about 16k

Great to meet you and Rich today, Matt.

Glad you liked the car, she is a beauty, and pleased you agree that RS Blue is the right colour to have one in.

Hope to hear back from you but good luck with your search for an RS2 in either case.

Andy
