If I go to someone like MRC tuning, will they give me a new ECU, or they give me a box that "connects" to the ECU. As said, I am a newbie....

I haven't tried them but they were recommended to me

vems is very easy to install. If you have any questions, let me know.
where are you located? I run VEMS ecu for about a year+ now and i can get it working for you. I am not a tuner, but i learned myself. pm me if you want.

The trouble with VEMS is that you need to either set up everything yourself or have someone do it for you. You can't just buy one, plug it in and forget about it as far as I know

sure, BUT it is so user friendly that once you have a base map all you need is time to get it properly setup. Most ECUs. will come with a base map and proper base settings for you to start. So you will spend very little time messing around with them. Its the tables that will interest you most.
Obviously you will have support from the seller (depending who that will be) you get more or less support. But as i said, vems is a sort of open community, so there is a lot of information out there that can get you a good tune and some nice/safe results. Plus, it is so straight forward to use, that any tuner can tune it for you if you need to.

I live in HK and there is not enough support to make it comfortable for me to try VEMS. Fortunately, I found someone who can repair the fried part on the ECU. One of these days I will give VEMS a try after I spend some time learning it on the internet. Thanks anyway guys.
