Blue plug under the throttle body

Yesterday I had the idle valve and throttle body cleaned out which has, thankfully, solved the problem of the car cutting out everytime I came to a standstill (extremely annoying
)
Whilst working on the car the mechanic noticed that a blue plug that "sits below the throttle body" (I didn't see the part he was referring to) was unplugged. He has therefore plugged this back in.
Anyone know what this is and what it does? The car is running far smoother now but have yet to be able to stretch its legs as the journey home was in traffic.
