New RS2 Owner

Post by MusicMadMike » Mon Mar 08, 2010 6:34 pm

Hi Guys,

I am finally fulfilling a dream of 16 years. I am soon to be the owner of a Polar Silver RS2. I bought it from this Pistonheads advert.
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1521673.htm

It looks a bit overpriced but it's that is a long way from the price I paid for it. I have been looking for some time but in the end it was the massive service history that swayed it for me, and the willingness of Grimsby Audi to do a truly remarkable deal and bend over backwards to make me happy.

Does Anyone know this car M418 BLM. I am so excited, I should be on tranquilisers. I have a two week wait until I go and collect it (her) as they are repainting front and rear bumpers and putting new rubbing strips on.

They are also doing the 102 point Audi check on the car at my request so hopefully I should know quite alot about her before she arrives down south.

Did I say I was excited? Hope to hook up with some of you at some point.

Mike

Good choice, good luck and I will look forward to seeing it in the metal one day.

Since the car is being bought from an Audi dealer, do you enjoy a 12 month Audi warranty?

Looks very nice.

Very nice im Jealous, I had viewed this advert a few times. I don't think I would be put of by the high mileage. Good call getting the 102 point check, if and when you do come to re-sale this will make it more attractive buyers and obviously piece of mind for yourself.

Did you drive down and view it/took it for test drive?

This has been a huge leap of faith for me as I have not even driven the car. Call it madness but I had a very feeling about this. The fact that the car was also being sold by an Audi dealer obviously helped. I got them to take pictures of all the bad points on the body and then asked them to correct them. Which they are doing, some at their cost and some at mine. The 102 point check was not something they had done as the car was somewhat unusual and not the normal part-ex. That said they have a long relationship with the previous owner who has just bought something new from them. An RS6 I think. Anyway I asked them to do the check for my peace of mind and to present me with the findings prior to collection. This way I will be going into this eyes open. With the 102 point check it's their reputation on the line so I feel relatively safe. Unfortunately there is not a 12 month warranty as the vehicle is too old to qualify but they provided me with details of a warranty company that have quoted this exact car with a top to tail for about £600.

They are proper car enthusiasts and I trust them. Strange thing in this day and age but my circumstances meant that I could not get up to them without risking losing out on an amazing deal, so its a bit of a punt but a measured one. Hopefully I won't regret it.

Sounds as good as it can get to buying a 15 year legend. :)

Indeed, do you think the person selling the car works for that dealership? Im mean its not often (not that I have seen any way) that a classic car is for sale at an Audi dealership.

That's a good point. I was under the impression that most franchised dealers only sold the current models as used cars and others under 5 years old (with a little leeway).

There was an RS2 for sale at an Audi dealer in Doncaster a few years back which had been part exchanged for a B7 RS4 Avant. It sold within a few weeks and then about a month later appeared at an independant dealer.

The car is definitely not one of the employees cars and was up on their official website for a time. I originally enquired about the car after doing a search of the Audi websites, and only one vehicle came up. I phoned and got the details and decided that it was too much money for me. I left my details and then a couple of days later I got a phonecall from the Dealer Principal saying that the company had been sold to a large consortium and that they had to re profile their stock immediately, with all cars not fitting the profile to be sold at auction within two weeks. He was very keen that the RS2 go to an enthusiast and not to a dealer who would only put it up for big money again. Consequently they made me a mad offer that I couldn't refuse. I was lucky to be in the right place and in a position to move very quickly.

I am not normally this lucky.

Got it!! Delivered on Thursday 1st April 2010. Did 500 miles over the weekend with family in tow. My wife loves it. Much more 'Me' apparently as previous Forester STI far too Boy racer and loud. This is more 'Man Racer' which is wholly acceptable. Took my Father in law out and scared the crap out of him but he was laughing almost as loud as me. This car makes me smile so much. Few things to sort out, primarily the tyres currently got Michelin Pilot 245/45/ZR 17s, and will be replacing these very quickly. Also will be upgrading the security to Cat 1.

Everything appears to be fine. Interior is very clean, underside also. Noticed it's got a Milltek exhaust so maybe it's also been chip tuned. I must get that checked out. Is there any obvious way of telling ?

Paint is good condition, a bit dull in places, so when funds and weather allows I'll get a full paint correction detail done. Wheels have been refurbed so they look good. Overall brilliant. What the hell have I been doing all these years. I should have done this years ago.

I'll be posting pictures soon.

yea BUT an RS2 is something special so perhpas a dealer would take it on, at least those in the know will creat interest and get visitors into the dealer.
