'Flaps' behind front wheels - scraping on inner side of rim?
All
Can anyone tell me if the flaps that sit behind the front wheels on the RS2 are essential or if it's safe to remove them? Are they some kind of mud flap? They appear to be held on by black zip ties.
I would just leave them as they are but the problem of the front wheels scraping on full lock remains despite fitting correct tyre size, track rod ends sorted etc. I'm 99% sure it's these flaps that are scraping on the inside of the rim.
Has anyone else experienced this or can offer advice?

The brake cooling flaps are essential as they guide air onto the brakes.
The only time mine have scraped is when I went through a deep puddle on the road at speed and the passenger side one came loose. The problem exhibited itself as a scraping sound when braking/turning. The cure was to refit it back onto the lower arm on which it is held by a bolt/nut fitting at one one end and clipped at the other. I guess with all the rain we have had all over the UK recently it might be your problem.

How strange. The same for me after rounding a bend at 70mph & hitting standing water !!scillyisles wrote:The brake cooling flaps are essential as they guide air onto the brakes.

Don't worry it's all fine. The weather down here can be a bit harsh sometimes and I must take a trip underneath and refix the plastic infront of the nearside front (that doesn't like puddles as well).DickyC wrote:WHAT??
