rear speakers not working

Post by Richardrs2 » Sat Aug 01, 2009 9:03 pm

I have just purchased an RS2. The rear speakers do not work only the rear sweeters. I have changed the head unit and that make no differance so it must be some thing to do with the car. Does anyone know if there is a rear in line amplifer or some thing which could be causing this problem ? I would be grateful for some help.

Many thanks

Richard

Hi Polas exspress i bought a silver (which I am sure you will agree is the best colour!) RS2 from Nick Johnson on 85,000 miles. I have only had it for 3 days but am very pleased with it and its history (14 Audi service stamps). I traded in a BMW Z4 MCoupe but before that I had a 2.7 RS4 in Avus which I missed so bought the RS2. I feel that the RS2 feels more special and it is great driving a car I have read so much about.
Other than the rear speakers not working I cant fault it.

I did look at the car at Parva cars which looked OK but i was not keen on the colour. I feel the car looks younger and brighter in silver and the contrasting black leather looks great. I have just put my plate on it with some nice Porsche number plate holders. I have also just ordered the Porsche crested centre caps for the wheels. Its like christmas !

Cheers

Richard, I have exactly the same spec RS2, you will love the car believe me. Had mine for 6 months now and it brings a big grin to my face everytime I go out in it.

As for the speakers I hope Al's advice works and if not you should take it back to the dealer as Alastair suggests, I've always found hi fi and associated connections to be a real pain to fix and generally let someone else take the task on (usually after failed to complete the job!).

AIRC the tweeters are driven by a lead that piggy backs onto a frequency crossover on the back of the woofer. The woofer is driven from one set of leads from this and the tweeters by another. So if the tweeters are working then the main lead to the woofer must be working - sounds like the frequency crossover might have blown. I think I still have my old drive units that I took out when I replaced the rears for JL Audio components - I will check tonite.

Hi Alwyn

Thanks for the tip on the user name.

No I did not look at yours as I needed to trade my BMW in so I was attracted by the deal that Nick Johnson could offer me. I wanted to try and buy a car under 100,000K if i could. Your car looks very nice on Pistonheads and I love the plate!

What interest have you had ?

Recently I have noticed that the cars are taking longer to sell.

Cheers

I have just fitted some 13cm 2 way speekers in the rear doors which I am running off the original feed. The crossover which is on the back of the bass unit was gone on both sides.

Sorted now but thanks to everyone for your help.

Cheers Richard RS2
