Climate Control problems

Post by JS2 » Thu Sep 04, 2008 1:31 pm

I've owned my RS2 for about 4 1/2 years and it's a great car - with one exception. It's a LHD model with automatic climate control system. When I first bought it everything worked fine, but gradually the system has become increasingly unreliable. Initially it started to refuse to direct air to the windscreen vents. Now all it will do is provide unheated or freezing air conditioned air split between the windscreen and footwells. No heating and no ability to change the direction of air flow. Earlier in the year I left the car with a specialist whilst working abroad, and they drew a blank. All parts of the system seemed to work when tested in isolation, but when the control panel is installed it doesn't work, which suggests a control panel fault. However, when a panel from another car was tried I believe the same problems occurred, and my panel appeared to work OK in the other car.

I would really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas, or can point me in the right direction, otherwise the car is going to become virtually unusable in the colder weather. It is my only car and I don't want to have to get rid of it due to this apparently trivial problem!

Climate control was not available of UK spec RHD RS2s and therefore there is zero experience of climate control for owners of UK spec RHD RS2.

i have an LHD RS2 and never had any issues with the A/C.YOu can pull the fault codes with a VAGCOM for the A/C.Have you tried that?maybe something might come up,as a faulty sensor,or module or something. There are connectors in the system which can go bad, other than just the main electornic dash

Yes, tried pulling the fault codes but that didn't really lead anywhere. One of the motors controlling the flaps behind the dashboard was replaced as it was found to be faulty but still no joy. The dashboard was dismantled and everything investigated pretty thoroughly by an auto electrician, but still no luck in making the system work properly...

hmm it is an odd one... could it be some faulty wiring to the system?I could imagine this as the only problem,as if you are saying the control module works fine on a different car,and a different module doesnt work on yours, then it is most definitelly the wiring if the sensors and flaps are ok.
in any case you can get for about 100euros a complete A/C system from germany(used) which you can use for parts,or replace completelly, search the german ebay shops for 'audi rs2' you cant miss it.Its a shop that sells the most parts for rs2

Mine is being rubbish at air on the screen, not pulled the codes yet, heater works alot better for a new pollen filter.
Have you blead the heater?
I also have much flasher climate control.
As Vasilis says, they don't usually give any trouble.
