RS2s do make a lovely noise, Angus, I have to say. And with fewer than 3,000 of them it's a pity more people can't enjoy it.

As a treat for my lads - and me! - at Castle Combe last year on the Audi International Day we had the run of the circuit at full tilt. The boys were well chuffed, because despite both having clean licences I am unable to insure either of them on it until they are twenty five. Okay on a circuit but not okay on the road. How does that work? (The girls are older but I have neglected to tell them about the twenty five year old rule...)

Ah, yes! Castle Combe flat out in an RS2. If you haven't tried it, give yourself a bit of a buzz and do it this year. I may never drive flat through Eau Rouge, but I have been through the bend at the end of the pit straight at Castle Combe without lifting and made 120 before braking for the bends at the top of the hill.

Happy days.

Anyone going to Silverstone, by the way, for the Classic meeting?

It's on Friday, Saturday and Sunday July 25/26/27. I'm going on the Saturday to meet my car's former owner. There's no official Audi presence as far as I can see but a gaggle of RS2s in the car park wouldn't do any harm.

My social secretary has kiboshed all meetings that the car's recent ailments hadn't already excluded us from, but I'm making a stand about Silverstone. And if I can't go I'm going to go upstairs and slam all the doors.

Just missed out on the VMAX terminal speed extravaganza last month which would have shown how fast it goes in a straight line. Craig was keen to have it there but had run out of spaces - next time maybe. Still, 120 through the bends of Castle Combe wasn't bad in a road car. On a Ferrari experience day at Silverstone I only managed 130 on the eerie expanses of Hangar Straight in a 360 Modena.

The Audi 80 RS2 Avant. What a car!

Have a good time at the Grand Prix.
