Hi

much to my frustation I tried to fit Philips H4 Xtreme Power bulbs. They did not fit despite being told they would from Philips. I am hoping the H7 bulbs will be correct , they appear to be the ones for later Audi A4's. My rs2 is the later model.
Anyway, I just would like to hear from anyone who can confirm this. I was hoping for the Philips bulbs as AutoExpress rates them highly. And standard headlamps are pretty poor these days aren't they.

You need H1 bulbs.
You would be much better off upgrading to a HID conversion for your projector headlights.

I am trying to do this for minimal cost. Apprently the H7 Xtreme Philips bulb fits the later A4 models so would probably fit mine being later model RS2. Just want to make sure this time. I am looking for a single filament bulb apparately, the H4/H7 say upto 80%,

Are you sure , H7 is single filament as well. Want to be double sure this time,

I'm going for the Philips Premium single filament H1! Unless someone says otherwise

BTDT - You need H1 - the downside is that upgraded H1 bulbs are nowhere near as "upgraded" as the latest upgraded H4 bulbs suh as the Phillips Extreme which I have fitted in another of my cars. These upgraded H4 Phillips bulbs are very good.

I am tempted to try the Halfords Super Brilliance H1 if I can. As I've had my car for 4 years further upgrades is not really an issue for me. Mind you, high speed storming is not made easy by the headlights! Thanks for repyling.

Try here for HID's - I think you will find the price comparable to some uprated H1 bulbs and work about 3 times better!

afgus - cannot remember which ones I put in my RS2 but I bought them from Halfords so it might be the Super Brilliance ones - it was some time ago and overall they are better but not the sort of gain i have seen more recently with the Phillip Extreme H4 bulbs in another of my cars.
The new Osram Nightbreaker was only released in October 2007 and seems to offer light output improvements of 90% which is comparable to the Phillips Extreme. Cost seems to be just over £20 for a pair which is less than a 1/3rd of the cost of going the more complex HID route.

I have just been to Halfords, they fitted the xenon Halfords Super Extreme, which have got to be an improvementon on the originals! £23. can't complain.

Angus if you want to see what a difference the HID kits make compared to yours pop down the road to my place one night and have a look see at mine on my RS2 bring your camera and you can post up the difference for all to see CheeRS Al

I have just done this & the improvement is marked. But that will be down to 13 years of autobulb development

I've also found that with conventional lighting ( i.e.non HID) heavy wire and relays also makes a difference, taking reading s before and after fitting resulted in about 2 volts extra at the bulb iirc.
