New Front Discs or Brake Upgrade

Post by nigel@flawith.com » Wed Dec 05, 2007 9:19 pm

On a recent service my local Audi dealer indicated that I needed new front brake discs. Fine I said, until he mentioned the price.

I recall seeing somewhere on the Internet that some RS2 owners had upgraded their brakes, but cannot find the article. Is there a website location on this topic?

If anyone has upgraded their brakes:
1. What did it cost?
2. Can you only upgrade the front brakes?
3. Is there a specialist that I can take my car too?
4. What are the down sides; impact on insurance etc.?

Hi Nige,

I recommend you speak to Corey at Quattronics. He does a very good GT3 Porsche monoblock upgrade, the cost of which will be largely covered by a dealer price of new RS2 front discs. Awesome power and no more corrosion!

As Clive indicated, search on the S2 forum for more info on this option. BRY is also worth speaking to for new brakes.

Good luck!

I originally had standard setup on my RS2 and yes the cost of replacement discs from Audi is very expensive. Audi do an upgrade kit which gives you upgraded cross drilled front discs (bigger 322 mm) from the 993 turbo plus bigger front calipers, plus upgraded cross drilled rear brakes using the same rear caliper. My Audi dealer discounted the price on this kit by 15% and the overall cost did not work out much more expensive.
I believe that VAGparts also sell this kit which is all OEM.
I told my insurance company about the kit - no increase in premium or effect on insurance.

there are front brake disks 304 and 322 from ebay.de at very good prices. Here in Greece the 322 brake discs and calipers i have are more than enough and wouldnt change them to monoblocks(at least not yet) as i have no corrosion issues. However my next brake discs are going to be cryogenically treated which i have seen almost doubles thei'r life time and has no effect on braking efficiency!!!It has been tried on an RS6 here in Greece and the results are intruiging!!
