Replacement Windscreens

Hi
I've had a replacement windscreen fitted by Autoglass. Its top tinted as well as green tinted except it just doesn't look quite the same as the old one. I'm checking this out further with them. Its possible there are only the standard Audi 80 windscreens available, I don't know. But apparently an Audi sourced screen would be from the same manufacturer's anyway.
Has anyone else found this problem in replacing screens?

I had my windscreen replaced by Autoglass a couple of years ago and I seem to recall that they had to order it specially for some reason. I'll check the invoice tonite and see if it gives any more information.

I also had one from Autoglass about 3 yrs ago. It took a couple of days to get in but was totally OE, only cost the £50 glass XS as I got a crack from a flying stone

How many chips do you need in your screen to 'qualify' for a new screen on insurance?

I had a crack that was not repairable. I guess if you had a big chip directly in front of the driver and tha could not be repaired, then that could be covered also. If you talk to Autoglass, then I am sure that they could tell you as they deal with this all the time

Hello chaps
The whole replace windscreen on insurance is a grey area I think. Mine had a leak as well a small chip that was repairable but it wasn't worth then doing it if they were going to replace the seal. Anyway, I'm still waiting to hear back re the tint colour. I can't remember whether on the original screens if the the green tint matches that of the other glass all round. I would appreciate if someone can confirm this as it will help with Autoglass.
Thanks
Angus

Hi
I had a choice from my insurance from autoglass or Audi if I wished. I think there's a slight difference between an 80 and an RS 2 windscreen. I know Autoglass had trouble finding one, which is why I went to the dealers.

It seems the parts numbers for 80 and RS2 screens are the same apparently....

Yes I agree - I checked my Autoglass invoice and the windscreen is described as a windscreen for Audi 80 Avant.

I have now double checked this, whether an Audi screen or an Autoglass the glass would be the same anyway. To have the Audi symbol would be an extra £100, I'm not fussed. I think the discrepancy is because although there is a standard to which glass is manufactured over time inevitably this changes and varies a bit between the differnent manufacturers...the original screen would have been produced 13 yrs ago. Yes, I know...I wish had the original too
