Following my brakes being bled and fluid replaced by an Audi 'specialist' my handbrake now has far too much travel on the lever. As they are 150 miles away returning it to them with an angry comment or 2 isn't an option.

Therefore can anyone tell me the official procedure to reduce the handbrake travel and tighten the cable. I presume it's something different as it acts on the brake shoes rather than the disks.

As long as all handbrake parts around the hub are in working order, to adjust cable is quite straight forward.
Make sure hb is released, remove wheels. Locate hole on outer part of disc. When doing this job myself, I used a torch, direct into hole, and slowly spin disc. You are looking for a small toothed wheel, which is the adjuster.
Once located direct a thin bladed screwdriver through hole onto teeth of adjuster. turning one way will tighten disc other way will slacken.
You need to adjust it so that brake shoe is just touching drum causing a bit of drag.
Do same to other side, adjusting exactly the same or as near as poss.
Your looking to pull lever up 2 notches to hold car.
If none of this works try looking at the adjustment nuts on the parking brake cables.

p.s. If you can't get adjuster wheel to move, could mean it's seized up.
