rs2 rear main speakers.

Post by rs2315 » Thu Oct 12, 2006 8:03 pm

I know these rear speakers are not that highly rated, for a car that was pretty pricey when new.
But for anybody out there who's rear speakers are now defunked, and are wanting to stay oem, the good news is that vagparts can still supply them.
Mine should be arriving early next week.

Hello,

You may have my rear speakers for £10 + Postage & Packing. I took them out 3 weeks ago and fitted some Infinity Kappa components. They're in perfect working order too...

Cheers,

Lloyd

What did you do about the tweeters? Do the Infinity Kappa's have tweeters built in to the speaker or are they separate and if they are separate did you mange to fit them in to the existing tweeter hole in the door card.

I ended up using the oem tweeters with Infinity Reference component speakers as the tweeters were too small for the holes and I wanted to keep it fairly neat and tidy.

Hi Angus,

The tweeters fitted in nice, neat and tidy :D

The speakers had 3 different fitting kits for the tweeters and fortunately
one of them worked a treat!

My only (minor) gripe is that the tweeter grill and the mid/woofer speaker cover is in Infinity silver rather than matt black as per OEM 'look'. However, I reckon I can sort that out OK with a can of spray paint!

The sound improvement is quite marked compared to OEM.

However, my favourite bit was fitting the infinity co-axials in the front. They dropped right in allowing the original covers to be used. Trouble with them though is they are almost solid plastic!!! How Audi expected to get good sound through them is a mystery. I simply cut the middles out (about a 4 or 5" dia disc) and re-covered using acoustic fabric.

Now they look OEM and sound fantastic :D

None of fitting kits for the tweeter that came with mine worked, but its not the end of the world.

I used some MB Quarts components up front which came with plain black grills and with a bit of surgery to the dash, fitted in very neatly and don't look at all out of place. The tweeters fitted straight into the little side window vents and again don't look at all out of place.

My god what a difference to the sound. I don't know why or how I put up with the old speakers for so long! The sound got even better when i fitted a Becker Grand Prix head unit.

A basic question but a search revealed nothing. How do I get the front speakers out?
Just prise up the covers? Mine seem to be fixed. Also model numbers for the speakers you fitted would be great.

Thanks

Thanks for the offer Lloyd, but the speakers are on there way.
Next time I'll make sure I ask the boy's on the forum if they're selling any bits.
cheers.
