I have some Michelin Pilot Sports that I'd like to put on the RS2. Size is 225/45/17 has anyone tried these tyres or can comment on their suitability?

I have Pilot Sport 2's on mine and am very pleased with them.I had 245 profile on my previous RS2, and the difference is very noticeable now I have the 225 profile.

i have decided to use Kleber's tyre in the winter.They cost 550euro and seem very good.Kleber is actually a michelin tyre only a bit harder.

What do you mean Boxer? I'm sorry but although your English is great (better than my non existant Italiano) I don't understand the question.

As I'm sure you know the RS2 was never supplied on 225 tyres but the size 225/45/17 has been found to be an acceptable replacement for the original tyres.

I have the original handbook and it only mentions the original Dunlops not the 225's.

The problem being, the original Dunlop tyres were one off's for the RS2 and are not made any more. The RS2 cup alloys are a very narrow 7 inch rim and the origan tyre was although 245 was effectivley more a 225 profile in that it was stretched tighter over the rim.

245 Profile tyre are ordinarily more suited to an 8 inch or bigger size rim. Most Porches running cup alloys have 8 inch rim front and 10inch rear and usually have 225 front and 255 rear.......

what if someone tries to have a 235 instead of the 225 tyre on the 7inch cup wheel.Will that be able to hold on the 7inch wheel or will it damage as the 245 do?

Sorry this is extremely dangerous, whilst I agree that Dunlop Sport 8080 tyres will fit on the wheel the stress on the sidewall is immense as the tyre is not designed to be fitted on a 7 inch rim. The tyres probably look good as you'll have a pronounced bulge but if you continue to run them then you WILL get sidewall tyre failure and most probably on the inner (less visible) sidewall. Speak to Dunlop Technical support and they will tell you that this size tyre is not safe on a 7inch rim BTDT. My Audi dealer fitted 245 Dunlop Sport 9000 which are also not safe and after consulting Dunlop technical and Audi technical they changed the tyres to Pirelli Nero 225/45 ZR17

Scillyisles is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT on this, and it really is VERY dangerous to be driving on modern day 245/40s. Several have gone on people's cars with catastrophic consequences. I have a letter from Audi confirming that, in the absence of Dunlop P8000 245/40s, the only suitable tyre size for the RS2 is 225/45. If anyone wants a copy of this letter for their records, please feel free to PM me your email address and i will send a copy through.

I used to "wear" Yoko 245, and I used to have that problem, so I decided to change them.
I called Audi Italia, and they told me about 8080, wich are very similar to the original Dunlop 245 that the RS2 used to fit. So I was told NOT to use the 9000, that are more sophisticated, but with a sidewall not suitable for our wheel...

And then, in Italy we have a problem: it is very gard to get the permit for different wheel sizes...

the previous owner use to use bridgestone 245 tyre and it was only a few Kms before he randomly noticed that the tyre was close to shread to pieces

Sorry but the Dunlop 8080 in 245/45 ZR17 is not safe to fit on a 7inch RS2 wheel - I specifically asked Dunlop tyres technical department here in the UK about this and they said NO. The best people to ask about correct tyres for your car (in the absence of the original Dunlop Sp8000 which are no longer made) are the tyre manufacturers not the car manufacturer. Audi here in the UK were'nt exactly on the ball on this issue.

Hello, do you think that on Audi RS2 I can fit without problems the originals 245/40 ZR17 tyres like Dunlop Sp Sport 9000 but on a 9J Cup1 wheels? Thanks a lot!

I had Kleber's when I got my car from Audi, they lasted ages, but not a patch on F1's for grip....
