Car doesn't start anymore

Hi,

After the car was idleing too low and stalling all the time I decided to clean the MAF. I really watched out not to damage it. But now the car doesn't start anymore. Below the error codes. I never use to have codes apart from an Intermitted Engine Speed Sensor error (G28). But then I read somewhere that this is normal. Now I also know that the camshaft sensor often breaks and the car wouldn't start. Anyway, I just find it odd that the car stopped working after I cleaned the MAF. See the codes below:

7 Faults Found:

00516 - Closed Throttle (Idle) Position Switch (F60)

30-00 - Open or Short to Plus

00561 - Mixture Adaptation

15-00 - Adaptation Limit (Add) Not Reached

00537 - Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation

11-10 - Control Limit Not Reached - Intermittent

00561 - Mixture Adaptation

13-10 - Adaptation Limit (Mul) Not Reached - Intermittent

00533 - Idle Speed Regulation

10-10 - Adaptation Limit Not Reached - Intermittent

00515 - Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40)

30-00 - Open or Short to Plus

00513 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28)

03-00 - No Signal

Well, after looking at these errors I think its more likely that the low ideling/stalling is due to broken Throttle Position switch and not the MAF.

And the car not starting is more likely due to the camsensor, right ?

Anyway, I don't wanna shoot out an buy a MAF, Camsensor and Thottle switch.

What is the best order ... or how can I check those bits ?

Also on my RS4 I can drive with the MAF unplugged and the ECU is clever enough to run in speed density mode. Is this the same on the RS2 ?
But then, correct me if I'm wrong, Speed Density relies on the throttle position, which in my case doesn't seem to work either. ;-(

Any help is really appreciated!

Cheers,
Dave

have you tried throttle body re-allignment they have proceedure on ross-tech website , i forget the actual url link to that proceedure, its somewhere on the site though

If you haven't already take a good look around these sites:

@dummi: if only the RS2 had DBW and throttle body realignment!!! lol :D

@dave: my money is on the cam position sensor, they have a bad habit of going... check it's connected properly and that the connections are clean before taking the timing belt off...

Cheers,

That's my guess too. I will also check the throttle position sensor as I've read the solder point go bad on them. Its ashame you can't check the Air flow via VAG-COM like on the RS4 ;-( Is there any other easy way to check the MAF ? Just to make sure it hasn't been damaged after all due to the cleaning.

Well, I guess this shows again that its never good to leave a car stading for too long. Just asking for trouble.

Can't wait to get my RS4 back. *ggg* See you on 24th!

Laters,
Dave

If you are going to check the cam position sensor make sure when you put the cam pulley back on so that it goes back on in exactly the same position that it came off. i.e the cam pulley should be half a tooth before/anticlock of the V mark. It won't line up exactly and if put back half a tooth after the V mark it will put the car into low boost mode.

This happened to me and it took six months and a lot of experienced and knowledgeable people scratching their heads to get to the bottom of why I had no boost. Including the so called specialist who replaced the cam sensor!

Ask Mihnea it was him who finally sorted it.
