Post by 20585 » Sun Sep 18, 2005 7:55 pm

I am considering buying an RS2. What fule consumption can I expect from a standard car on the motorway and in town?

Thanks

The official EEC figures for the car on release were:

90km/h (56mph) : 36.7mpg (7.7 l/100km)
120km/h (75 mph): 30.7mpg (9.2 l/100km)
town cycle: 19.8 mpg (14.3 l/ 100km)

mostly i suspect it depends on how much you enjoy driving the car

hope this helps,

Tim

Just did 2700 miles over 3 weeks of mixed (read "enthusiastic") driving in france and averaged 22mpg. Around london I get around 16mpg.

I wish I got the figures mentioned above, but Tim is correct it does depend on how much you enjoy driving your car.

In steady motorway driving averaging 80 - 90 mph I get about 27mpg - in town (London) I get around 18 -19mpg. My trip computer which I've never reset since I bought the car from new shows an average of 22mpg.

Thanks I will keep those figures in mind when buying. With fuel costs as high as they are now I don't really know if I can afford to buy one of these great cars.

fuel prices are only gonna get worse.... best get it out of your system now before it really is too late :bigblink:

seriously, though, for a car of this level of performance the fuel figures aren't TOO bad, especially if you dont use it for going around town. especially when you think that its 10/11 years old now. however, if you ARE gonna use it around town a lot, or you will be doing 20K a year in it, it will hurt. maybe then its time to find a smart car and an old 330d?

Fuel consumption

Having had my RS2 for three years I'd say 20mpg is about average.

Mine has the quattrosport 360bhp upgrade so this may make the consumption worse than normal.

I do notice that with the turbo kicking in big time at about 3,500rpm (80mph in 6th) I can get 25+ at this speed wheras anything quicker (with turbo) is significantly lower.

Lowest achieved is 11mpg but boy was that fun....

I found my fuel consumption improved by 2mpg overall after getting a proper 4 wheel alignment done.
I now get about 20mpg around town and about 24-25mpg on the motorway.
My average readout has gone up from 18.5 mpg to 20.5mpg, which reflects the mix of driving I do.
