Near-future RS2 purchaser could use a car-viewing

Hello there,

I've been a member of RS246.com for a while (RS2s have been my favourite car since october 1994....), but have never posted before.

I've finally summoned up the courage/money to buy myself one (and insure it). I have a possible/probable one lined up but because i have only ever seen (and been in) one i am quite nervous about just rocking up and trying to make a sensible informed decision. There is also the added excitement of it being LHD - i have never driven a LHD manual before.

Therefore, i was wondering if there are any RS2 owners remotely close to me - I live in Cardiff - who might be willing to show me their car and let me have a look around it. Anything within a swansea/llanelli - brecon/builth wells - hay-on-wye/hereford-gloucester/bristol would be greatly appreciated, and i'd consider any offers from further afield because i've got friends all over the country who i'm sure i could visit at the same time. ideally, i'd really like to see at least one LHD, but any RHD offers would be fantastic too.

thanks very much,

Tim

Hi Rich,

thanks very much for the offer! If i can tempt anyone a bit closer as well it would be great, but if not then Milton Keynes it is! There seem to be lots of you guys based in bucks/sussex/surrey area..... and no one in Wales!

If you really don't mind then please PM me your mobile number. I should have said on the first post that pretty much any time of day and any day is convenient for me so i can fit in whenever it is least inconvenient for you!

thanks once again,

Tim :D

Thanks Angus!

I have lots of mates who live in london, so I might well have to take you up on it. Thanks for all the links, too - i hadn't spotted the one on S2forum before, and one of the Autotrader cars has magically got 100 miles closer to me overnight (11grand nogaro blue). i will try to contact the seller and see if the car is still there. its even stupid things like bootspace i need to check - i had the trip of my life in an RS2 back in '99, but needless to say i wasn't really concentrating on the practicalities of ownership at that time, i was just holding on for dear life and grinning like a loon.....

thanks again,

Tim

Tim,

Should have asked 6 weeks ago, I've just moved from Swansea! However, you can come look at it now in Slough, if you just want some idea of what to look out for, its a 1995 blue, left hooker with full history and i'm just trying to make it perfect again!

Regards, David

David, that sounds great!

could you PM me a contact number or an email address or something so we could sort out a possible time and venue etc? as i said in one of my earlier posts, pretty much any day, any time is feasible for me (writing up my PhD....). Rich in Milton Keynes has also very kindly offered, and Angus in London (whereabouts in London, Angus???) so i can see a big trip coming on....

thanks again!

addressed to everyone:

oh and should have said in first post (in case there are any people not offering me a viewing nearer to cardiff because of this.....) that i'm definitely NOT looking for anyone to let me near the driver's seat of their beloved motor. All i would just like to do is nose around to see a range of ages (well, 94 or 95javascript:emoticon(':D')) and repairs etc and pick your brains face-to-face about what are the pros and cons of ownership etc.

and if one or two of you don't mind taking me for a 5 min burn out (with me strapped into the PASSENGER seat) that would be ideal.... having read enough posts about underpowered ones due to various problems it would be nice to know what the rocketship is like in full working nick.... i drive a 150bhp Saab 9-5 estate every day so even an underperforming RS2 is gonna feel quick to me. :D

come on south wales, there's gotta be one......
