I have a Turbo Dynamics MD147 Hybrid kkk26/27 Turbo which a number of other people here also seem to have.

Although it gives me a lot of top end oomph it only kicks in at around 3600rpm so there is a bit of waiting around for something to happen, but once it does kick in it is great and just keeps pulling. The 7A cams may also add to this effect as well.

When my car was recently remapped by Mihnea at MRC he expressed a preference for the standard RS2 turbo over my one (he had already done a number of S2'S/RS2's with the MD147 turbo) as it was much better suited to the car as the turbo kicked in much earlier and allowed for better bottom end performance and when combined with his custom mapping he felt he could get better allround performance than with mine. (I'm sure Mihnea will correct me if I am wrong)

Here is MRC's UK site:

Nige,

It is probably worth you looking in the direction of the Garret T0?? series turbo's or a GT garret turbo since the spool up very quickly and ealier than the 3600. It all depends how you drive the car really. Its quite nice not havin the turbo kick in properly until 3600 revs because you can cruise along at a more sedate pace around town easily and one down shift and your off.

Im quite a sedate driver really! Its the 0 - 60 time that I want to get down. the top end 100+ I'm happy with. if the remapping by MRC helps with that fine Im trying to get the right information before I decide. Ive also heard that nitro can help with the cooling do you know if thats correct. The more info the better. tvm

0-60 a hybrid would help with since the RS2 doesnt have quite as much top end, NOS can help too if its setup right. Havent any personal experience of that though.

there is lots that you can do, on yours just changing the exhaust cam will give you a bit more top end with a remap. All a question of how much cash you have to spend

I wouldnt say dosh is a problem as I wear the trousers but the one who chooses the colour might get a bit miffed if I spend more than 5k just down to the fact that I ve just had an entertainment system fitted; obviously though that was for the kids! I'm going to speak to Mrc this week as it seems the feedback that im getting is that they know there stuff.

Even the S4 with it's twin turbos will struggle to delivery masses of boost at 2500 rpm.

IMHO you've got unrealistic expectations unless you drop down a turbo size.

MRC are v experienced. my car has been mapped several times by them and im very happy with the work done. My car and Angus's are almost identical apart from the cams and he has about 15-25hp more on his.

Speak to turbo dynamics about their hybrid turbos since they have a good range for the S2/RS2

What about this one:

http://www.034efi.com/product_info.php? ... cts_id=196

This is a new turbo and www.034efi.com have had magnificent results with it, especially with RS2s. It offers quicker spool up but better flow than the RS2 unit so everyone is a winner! They are selling like hot cakes apparently!

I am actually buying one for my 10v UR quattro (RS2 efi etc) and 034efi.com have had a 10v, with their injection system, running at almost 500 BHP (they were testing the flow capabilities!) which is incredible, even compared to the RS2 unit.

I too have a garret/kkk hybrid on my RS2 which provided some surging at lower revs when the boost came on which Mihnea had to dial out by reducing boost to 18psi until about 4000 revs when I get a full 24/25 psi. He said that the unit was less efficient lower down the rev range than the RS2 unit (because of the potential for surging) but better at higher revs. However, because it is a ball bearing unit the turbo will produce full boost by 3000 in 3rd to 6th gears - which is better than the standard RS2!

I am going to see how it goes on my 10v and if it is a good unit then I will definitely fit one to my RS2!

Turbo Dynamics are still scratching their heads to see if they can make one. If not then I will buy straight from the US and send any old turbo out to them first so that it classes as an exchange (reduced duty).

keep us posted on how you get on with this. As with all turbos there is always gonna be a compromise somewhere.

Am getting my RS2 dynoed today. Was 335bhp before Mihnea remap so keen to see how much improvement there is. Same dyno and operator as before so will be a direct comparison......
