Stolen/Recovered RS2

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum but have found it very helpful so far. I'm interested in buying an RS2 and have been reading up on the car but have yet to go and view any. I've heard about a RHD volcano black example with 70k on the clock. The problem is that it's recorded as a cat d write off as it has been stolen and subsequently recovered. The seller assures me that the only damage is to locks/ignition. There is also the issue of tracing the service history, though I believe Audi might be able to supply some information on production of a chassis number.

My initial reaction was to steer clear, but having done a little more research into cat d cars, I'm wondering if it's worth a look. The seller seems to want about £9500.

Does anyone have any advice/experience in this area?

Robo is probably the best man to talk to, as he bought his from a salvage agent as stolen recovered I think.

I looked a volcano black cat d write off recently, sounds like it might be the same car? Was the reg M3** BLO. Regarding audi service history ring 0800699888, they will send you a letter detailing everything they know. But if the reg matches first let me know and i can provide feedback on the car.

Richslay - thanks for the info but unfortunately I think it must be a different car - the one I've been told about seems to have a private plate on it (which has presumably been transferred off onto another car by the owner). I've only seen photos of the car and there's tape over the plates but it looks like it begins B16. I'll post more info as and when I can.

Thanks for the advice so far.

I did see this car on salvage auction and the car has been sold for £ 8600 , and same car at e-flay for £ 9000 with not even one bid.
Reg of the car was M4** UJO.
When buying stolen recov car you have to check everything its so painfull if you pay this kind of money ( 9000)
and you needs 2-3k on top.
That car had no ecu and you could not see milage so I would stay away from it.
You could alway get this

"one of 60 made right hand drive 320BHP, was mint throughout"

LMAO

Notice that it "was" mint.

That's the one! And it's not in Wigan either. They keep saying it'll arrive there soon but as far as I'm aware, it's currently in Basildon...

Still £9000, despite not getting any bids last time.

I might take a look if it ever turns up, but unless anyone can shed any more light on it's history I think I'll steer clear...!

It does need a bit more work than 'just locks', apart from ECU missing as robo says, all the wiring under the steering column is in a right mess, doors are dented around both door locks and the cambelt is very very slack. I thought it had snapped at first. Oh and the rear bumper has a big crack in it.

Prolly why there is no 'ECU', they don't want you starting it in case you discover it's shafted! lol
