Just viewed a RHD RS2...

Post by Ghia » Sat Jun 11, 2005 4:02 pm

I Just viewed a Nogaro Blue RHD RS2 with the Alcantara interior etc etc...
What a waste of time!
I feel totally let down by the owner.
I arrived 5 minutes early to find he had taken the car out to warm it up. Not a great start. When he returned I started to look over the car in detail.

There is overspray behind all 4 wheels on suspension components and behind the front bumper (which is cracked in 2 places).

The accelerator pedal was broken and living in the Drivers door pocket, surely this can't cost more than £20-30 to replace! Not the best way to sell a car.

The O.S.F wheel was in the boot and the spare was on the car (which he admitted to swapping over just before I came) due I can only guess to kerbing etc. The rest of the tyres were "cheap and nasty" to use the owners words.

One of the most alarming things was that there was no power below 4,000rpm, and I don't mean there was some and it was just turbo lag, I mean there really was no power (my Golf Gti 8V goes faster that this!). Whats more is the boost took an age to build up, even when the engine was already above 4,000rpm. I could put my foot to the floor and wait atleast 1 1/2 - 2 seconds before anything happened. When the power did come it wasn't that much... I'd estimate 250 tops... certainley no where near 315. For a car having covered 125,000 miles, it drove more like 250,000...

The other major problem was that it changed direction when the power came on. When you were just driving it nicely, there was the occasional clonk from the N.S.F suspension but it drove in a straight line. However as soon as the power came on (eventually!), the car started to turn left. Not just a slight pull but a "change in lanes" type change in direction.

The owner would only say so much about the car until you approached certain areas, at which point he would say "Oh yeah its always done that" or "Audi told me they all pull to the left"...

After looking around at the car fully and taking into account that the car is RHD and the problems it has, I offered the sum of £8,000 which is way below the £12,500 asking price but as I told the owner, it has so many things which need putting right, it will take thousands to make it a "nice car". He said "thanks for wasting an hour of my time" and we went our seperate ways. I feel very much that he has wasted my time rather than the other way around.

Yours disgruntled...

I felt that I should report so anyone else looking knows what to expect from this car and owner.

LMAO  "They all do that......."

It is annoying that people can't be honest when describing a car. I really don't get the point in "lying"(?) what the car is like, as when you see it you not what its like anyway...........

Clonk from the front is probably a top mount/s gone. Pulling toone side is anything from a stuck caliper, to alignment issues. Could be costly. If memory serves the accelorator pedal is quite expensive, IIRC, its the whole pedal/arm.......?
The car is laggy, but you really should be grinning once it comes on boost. Again, could be anything,WGFV, dump valve, boost leak, vac hose leak, intercooler O ring, cam timing......... Its a case of getting fault codes from the car, or getting a pressure test done to throw up any leaks......Normally more time consuming and annoying, than expensive, unless you are paying someone to do it.

On a decent high performance car, I personally like to see decent tyres, matching, and with even tread all round. Should be a good brand too, with clean alloys. IMHO, if someone is prepared to run a car on crap, worn mismatching tyres with scuffed wheels, it says something about how the car is looked after...........

Just my 2 pence....

Hi MG,
Sounds like the same car myself & my brother looked at approx. 5 wks ago. The drivers side rear quarter panel was replaced, jim ( bruv ) offered £ 8 k as well, as you said alot of money to be spent to get the car sorted !

Regards,
John.

Sounds like you are well clear of that one. Could easily of cost you £4.5k to get up to anything like decent & that is with just the things you know about.
Although the cars are laggy, generally to the uninitiated they just feel "normally quick" below about 3,000 rpm & then take off rapidly putting the most enormous grin on your face. The sort of sense of acceleration you sometimes get in an aeroplane on take off. This will be very different to anything you have experienced before unless you have been in some fairly exotic machinery, but you do get used to it eventually.

Polar Silver RS2

Post by cuz-gs » Sun Jul 03, 2005 7:33 am

I went to look at a Polar Silver RHD RS2 yesterday that has been advertised on Exchange And Mart for a while now.....and wish I hadn't!!!

The tax expired October last year, the rear tyres were flat to render it undriveable, obviously a serious lack of interest from the dealer!!

Knew it was the worst example I'd seen when my brother in law pointed out there wasn't one panel on the car with original paint, the passengers door didn't actually open from the outside, the alcantara was quite tired, the interior smelt of dog wee wee, the wheels were kerbed quite badly.

We didn't stick around to drive it. Just goes to show, on paper the proposition was reasonable. 104k, 3 owners, FASH,sat nav and the dealer was happy to take £10k for it.

Anyone want a track car?.......The search goes on, maybe viewing number 7 will be lucky!

Agreed.Caught my eye
However, unless I am putting 2+2 together and coming up with 5, could this be the one that is at the top of this thread? Is it also the same one that was on the Trader about a month ago, and also advertised on here.....Can't be that many Rs2's in Noggy blue with 125k for around £12k :?

Maybe the members who have posted already may know.......

I cant wait to drive one of these things, but I cant believe how some people mistreat them and dont look after them - almost criminal in my book.

I wouldnt pay more then £6,000 from the description given

From the comments above it seems like a correct description -- doesn't have to be
stunning = good
does it ?

A Mr Owen of Cardigan was the first owner, lovingly thrashed by all the garage staff in the dealer down here. Have a pic of the speedo around at 165mph.....46miles on the clock?
Sounds as if a lot has happened since then?
