Hi all,

Going to look at a vehicle this weekend and was wondering if anyone has been to see or has any experience of this vehicle:

It has a towbar. I would want to know what and how often. Towing puts a lot of load on any engine. I would not touch a regular towcar myself. Looks good but you need to see and drive a few.
You need to see what has been done service wise as they are all at the stage of potential big bills. Brakes and dampers come to mind BTDT !

Oh and if you check autotrader they have one at AM cars(quattro specialists) in polar with big brake upgrade at a similar price. I would get more details on that one

As a point of interest (at least for me) when a factory tow bar is fitted to an RS2 (and wired into the loom?), it switches the ECU in to low boost mode.

I suppose it might be a bit of a worry if it didn't if you were pulling a caravan.

I may be wrong, but I thought the reg plate on that rings a bell :? I thought it was for sale on Ebay a few times.I thought it had been sold a few times only to appear relisted again? I am sure it has been discussed on the S2 forum before.......?

I think its been on ebay at least twice. First time it was described as having a hard life on a farm with 168k and a few paintwork issues. Then second time around some money had been spent on it. It was then up for £13,500.

Last time it was mentioned here was an ebay related thread.

Has the market slowed? I've been looking for about 6 months and all the cars I've looked at are still for sale. And what are the chances of a stealer in Southend getting nearly £18k for a Noggie blue one described as "Metallic Blue" with 76k?

The black rs2 looks a goodun, haven't had a chance to make the trip yet.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the info. Went to have a look at it today and weakened, couldn't stand to see another one that I liked and not buy it, my hearts not upto it(especially when they are black)!

Had a good look around it and a long look at the service history. In terms of history it seems to have had quite a few of the more common (and expensive bits) done already, brakes, cambelt, front bumper etc. Bodywork has one tiny scratch but very good over all. It needs a few bits doing to it, advice welcome:
1) Needs a luggage cover, will the one off the 80 avant fit?
2) It does seem a bit down on power, the turbo boost wasn't quite as aggresive as i remember in others(though it seems to vary lots betwen cars?). Will investigate the tow bar theory, though i might have to leave it on to tow the rally car at weekends! Apparently it hasn't been used much before.
3) Leather could do with an 'injection of life' any recommendations?

Also:
-What is a fully refurbished(still in boxes) set of rs2 wheels worth?
-Superchips, are the engines OK with them(one for sale on ebay!) what is the effect on performance/economy?

All in all very exciting, get to join the owners club at last.... 8)

RS2's can suffer from a variety of low boost issues that can vary in difficulty in putting right. At the easy end it can be a boost leak, which is fairly common and straight foward to fix and then it quickly gets more complicated as you move into the numerous sensors and boost controls that can go wrong that tell the cars ECU to cut the boost. This is where it all gets interesting, frustrating, annoying and rewarding. You will find many posts both here and on the S2 forum with titles such as "Help...No boost", "no power...", Boost problem" and so on. These are all fixabable problems, and there are a lot of owners with "been there done thats" that will get you through any problems, most of us have had at least one boost problem. First things first, have him remove the tow bar and see if that helps.

Don't bother with a superchip, there are other ways of getting more out of your RS2 that have more satisfying results. Many people on this Forum as well as on the S2 Forum have had custom maps with a guy called Mihnea at MRC Tuning and there are other options as well. With a custom map you can choose what you want i.e. a lot more performance and a lot less economy or vica verca, you can even have more performance and more economy. Up to you.

IIRC the luggage covers are surprisingly expensive, check with VAG parts but i think over £200. Occaisonally they come up on e-bay and I think Quatro Corner currently has one for sale. I beleive they are the same as the 80 Avant.

In regards to the wheels; Porsche RS2 wheels where made just for RS2's (other Porsche wheels won't fit on a RS2 without being adapted), so the market for selling them isn't huge, probably only RS2 owners. If you do end up with this car and these spare wheels, I might consider taking them off your hands, as a favour of course, for a small consideration  . Seriously, I may well be interested.

Well done and welcome
I would echo Angus. Do not touch superchips.
MRC remap is the way to go however get all the 'performance influencing' service items sorted first. Air + Fuel filter, DV, spark plugs come to mind unless changed previously. Then when you go for a remap you can get one !

£18k
I've been watching these , and S2 Avants since the begining of the year. Prices are not that great - £12 - £15k seems to be the norm. I've also read a lot of the S2 Forum and they need to be very well maintained. Probably still need to put aside several £k to go through/over it.
I've got an insurance quote of £180, 3000 miles a year ( third vehicle 4th in family) but not got the go ahead from her yet !!
And yes I also remember the hard use farm senario as well.

Aye it's back again.

M901FUF, indeed very much debated in the 'ebay' thread below, last post March 4th. Saw the car in Autotrader again this week and immediately thought RS246. As you may recall, sheer coincidence meant I was able to see this car in the flesh in February this year. Did not wish to dig up the thread, so here is a link to my previous post including photograph....

Looked mighty fine when I saw it I must say, although I didn't get the chance to speak to the owner or give it a close inspection.

NOOO :(
Picked up my new RS2 from Bath on Thursday, drove to meet a friend in Oxford and to cut a lons gtory short came out of the pub and there were plumes of steam from under the bonnet and a large puddle underneath, two AA men and two garages later found a coolant pipe had split, so £192 bill within the first four hours of ownership... D'oh! Anyhow have now got the car back and seems to be running fine, just a few questions that you guys may know the answer to:

- The car is definately down on power, now it does have a tow bar fitted do people know for sure if having this wired in will alter the performance, at times i get some truly frightening mpg's (5: but that was late night on the Tingewick bypass ;) )
- What tuning company can people recommned near Milton Keynes? at the moment i can't really afford the full remap, but i do want to find out why it isn't pulling quite hard enough.
- Silly things - Is the clock (on the revcounter) back lit and are the two bulbs on the diff lock symbol in the centre console, i only seem to have the back two wheels lighting up.

Thanks for all your help guys, making the process of 'taming the beast' good fun.
