cracked turbo manifold replacement

My replacement turbo manifold has finally arrived after a 6 month wait for the German marnufacturer to produce the part. It was cracked, and although some correspondents on this discussion forum suggested that they came cracked :? , I took the (more expensive  ) route of caution to replace - in the meantime I had it welded by a specialist.

My question now stems from the fact that my mechanic mentioned last time that it was a nightmare to replace as he had to almost remove the engine to get at it. At the time I remember that someone here mentioned that there was an easy way to do it, but I can't find the thread. If anyone recognises where my mechanic is going wrong, can they let me know?

Thanks

I found the thread... oh, and it was the turbine housing that's cracked and the exhaust manifold that doesn't have to be removed. Embarassing myself with car parts as usual...

shouldnt be too bad to do. Remove the air box and 12 bolts, the oil and water feeds/returns and its off :)

Take head of, or undo engine mounts and lift whole engine up.
