Is anyone aware of a Dahlback style filter to MAF pipe availble in the UK? See pic below.

I know I can do a similar thing with 2 x 90º samco's and some hose clips but it is expensive and unecasarilly over speced and not much more than the Dahlback kit once you bought the filter.

Speaking of filters, my old foam Ramair cone is in need of replacing and is not being made any more. Any suggestions? I've read about the K&N for the cosworth being suitable, but I'm not sure about size. HKS seems good but has reports of poor filtering. ITG and ramair have good reports but size issues again. Apexi expensive. Then there is the question about wet (oiled fabric) or dry (foam). There is just too much to choose from.

And yes I do have a heatshield ; )

I have never been convinced re after market vs standard with REGULAR filter changes. Noise increased with induction roar yes few bhp yes engine protection only if you keep them well looked after.

I had K+N on previous SAAB T16 and S2 so I have some experience.

Like Alastair I am not totally convinced as to the benefits.
However, I am going to try a K&N panel filter in my RS2, always had these fitted in my previous cars and I am quite happy to clean them & re-oil every year.
As far as the Dahlback set-up goes, I have seen this installed and it does look very neat. The heatshield works remarkably well, which is more than a little surprising seeing as it is so close to the turbo & exhaust manifold. There is at least one thread with regard to panel vs. cone filters on www.S2forum.com that is worth reading if you are interested.
Certainly a cone makes things quite a bit louder with induction roar - can be nice if you like that sought of thing, but others (i.e the wife) may find it a little bit tiring on a long drive.
I think with your cat free 3" exhaust system a cone filter will work very well, and it is unlikely that you are worried about the noise issue.

I replaced my standard with K&N panel about 8 months ago. The car just became so much more crisper. I have no problem cleaning and re-oiling the filter every few months. I am so used to it as I do it on a weekly basis with my motocross bike. It also sounds slightly more throaty, but fine for the wife and kids.

That is good to hear, as it was exactly what I was hoping for.

I think its difficult to be sure. I switched between the standard and K+N on S2 and could not convince myself of a performance difference. Unlike new spark plugs last week which sharpened everything up.

Best way I found out, is driving barefoot, big toe on accelerator. With K&N small movement of toe is response. With standard you need to move your toe a bit more for the same response. Strange but works. I love driving the car barefoot, try it, makes the car faster?????????

It certainly is louder than standard On long drives my wife wears my Bose noise cancelling earphones.

I'm not always sure about it being quicker (although the cat removal made a noticable difference), but it does sounds faster

Alaistair, in Angus case he can onle instal cone filter cos he has biger turbo and there is no room to put back standard airbox.
Angus someone on s2forum was seling dahlback filter , I will try to find the link.

Thanks Robo, please let me know if I'm wrong, but I think the site administrator of the S2 forum snapped up the Dahlback filter kit... for testing purposes.

The car does sound nice but no the car is not running ok, but hopfully over the next month or so it will be. You must start driving yours around on a daily basis so I can spot or failing that hear you. Give me a call when you are in the area, I'm often around in the day.

If I had to go to cone filter I would put one of those dry APEXY better for your MAF.
Also they test a lot of filter's on Scooby forum and theis one isthe best flowing/filtering ratio

What turbo do you have fitted to your car? At the moment I think paul N is looking at how the Dahlback one has been made up. I got a quote from a local firm to make one up and it worked out alot cheaper than buying one.

I have the RS2 airbox and K&N it is louder than standard but not the point that you feel like a boy racer, There is a slight difference but not huge, I think it is more psycological because of the noise.

Hybrid KKK 26/27, I think from Turbo Dynamics.

I hate to admit it and I really didn't plan it to be like this, but I think I probably do sound like a boy racer or should i say an old boy racer. I definatley agree about the psycological bit.

The induction will sound quite throaty and you will hear the DV more, I noticed quite a difference with the RS2 airbox and a K&N in mine. Changing from the ABY airbox. Is the turbo an MD147 by any chance?

I'm afraid I don't know about MD147's - As far as I know (which ain't much) my turbo is a Hybrid KKK 26/27 from Turbo Dynamics.

Still haven't decided on which cone filter and plumbing to use to replace my old ramair foam cone. Just too many to choose from!
