To Mod or not to Mod.? that is the question.

I am sort of considering a few engine mods to my RS2. At the moment it is running sweet and looking as good as the factory intended and keeps pissing Impreza drivers off, so I love it. So, can anyone who has modified theres tell me wether it is worth it? I dont want to lose the characteristics of the cars performance nor do I want an even bigger turbo lag. Does a 360 bhp/ +50nm tq chip job work well?

There is a guy over on s2forum.com called paul nugent i went over to his house to do some dianostic test on my car(thanks again paul) he and his main mapping man from belgium (mineah) are audi tuning gurus.
i nearly handed over some money.

he can do a generic chip which delivers 350 bhp ! basically open ecu, plug in and off you go. contact him for prices (his handle is s2central.net)
also when mineah comes over to the uk he can map your car anything up to 380 bhp this is where he tunes your car while you drive (ie next to you)
its like diving a different car everyone says, i have a annual service front bushes, windscreen and a bit of paint work required to be done before i can afford a chip yet. ("go on get one before everything else"! ....................... DOH,! dont listen to the voices !)

Hope this helps

Yep I got to make appointment with Mineah sometimes, I'd like to get him to drive my car and see if it runs OK?
I have never compeered my car with another rs2 so I don’t know if the car is ok or not? well the best idea is to have a rs2 meeting :) , we see I may go to France in august.

If anyone is too far North for those locations the guy here in the Norh East who is re-building my engine after a big-end failure ( bl**dy big ouch(':boohoo:') has put 650 bhp under the bonnet of an S2 coupe for a hill climb comp car which delivers 0 - 60 mph in 3.0 sec, 0 - 100 mph in 6.2 sec and 0 - 130 mph in 10.3 sec, my rebuilt unit is due back in the car next week and he has taken a hell of a lot of care to do the job and I can't wait ('8)'

In my search for a RS2, i drove quite a few. Chipped and Standard. With it I realised that I must buy a standard one. The chipped cars are potent but are a bit like a kid on steroids. Want to Go, want to Go. Dosn't feel like it wants to cruise. Takes everyday driving pleasure away. Also clients of chipped cars mentioned high maintenance and running costs. And unreliability. Standard engine allready has high horsepower/litre ratio. Rather spend your money on suspension etc. Or spend your money on a Caterham 7. By the time you have spent all the money on engine mods( you tend to get carried away when you start.) you could have a Caterham.
See article. How to make your RS2 fast.
Good luck with your decision.

I would really be up for comming along to your "rolling road/remapping meet". I'll watch out for updates!

I would be very interested in seeing how my Dialynx remap and mods compare to others. It was done, what seems like, such a long time ago (5yrs) that I can barely remember what a standard RS2 is like, what I do remember just after the work was done is that the mods made the car much smoother and more progressive with more a lot more pull at higher speeds, although not noticabley quicker off the mark. As my remap is/was a fairly early one and as there now seems to be a much wider knowledge and level of experience with remapping RS2's, it might even be time for a little tweek.

Well as soon as i can get hold of him i should be able to arrange something concrete. I havent arrnaged one up in shropshire before so if anyone knows of any 4wd Rolling Roads in the area that would help.

AAH! im sure mihnea will be able to have a look at your setup and possibly tweak it a little for you.

Anyone got a Quattrospeed short shifter fitted? Are they any good?

Whoops, hope I didn't give Hiltron, or anyone else the wrong impression when I posted yesterday, my rebulit engine will be run in on standard settings and then have the mapping looked at to see if any tweaking will help, my engine has not been suitably modified to deal with extreme hp's, only ported and race forged conrods have been considered. All I've asked for is a "happy" car as I didn't want to lose that smooth progression from 20mph upwards in 6th gear

Hat off to you Richard!! Ive had my standard LHD for three years and I dont think I have ever tried 20 - time warp in sixth before. I'm still at that stage where I cant help myself.....you know......your at the lights.........months worth of Sainsburys shopping in the boot........missus moaning cos she forgot the sprouts for when the in laws come round for tea.....your mind wanders..................a granny pulls up next to you in her Nissan micra.................she glances over........you recon she's up for it...the lights go green you floor it in first....Wham!! your missus instantly shuts up moaning as her tits fly over her shoulders.........you nail second perfectly just before the limiter....Whoooosh another rush. You look in the mirror .....Ha!granny isnt even rolling yet. You look ahead ..........another jam! bang on the anchors...... bonnet dips.........the missus squeaks as her tits come flying back over to point in the right direction.......you stop........a peaceful eerie silence looms as you wait for granny to catch up and have another go!! I love my car.............................Do I need help?
