Guys

What do you think is better an AA/RAC inspection at £250-ish which still has no real guarantee and is done by a mobile engineer, or an inspection by AMD or Kim Collins Quattrosports who know the cars better and will put it on the ramp etc (AMD: £205, Quattrosports £106)

The AA/RAC are more widely known but I'm not convinced they are better.

They both include Data Checks (AA's own and RAC's HPI) but a full HPI check is only £39.95 on top of the independent's prices.

What did you all use?

Go to someone like Kim who is familiar with the RS2 and its vagaries and has seen more than one of them! He can also advise on what if anything needs doing and the likely cost based on practical experience.

It is probably better to have a specialist look at the car, where do you live and would the seller take the car to you chosen inspector.

The AA/RAC are more convenient and offer some guarantee. I have personal experience of this with my RS2, the AA gave it a clean bill of health but my specialist gave me a bill for £3500 to sort it out, the AA reinspected the car and paid for the work to be done......

Never buy without some sort of inspection, try to sample a few cars, preferably well sorted standard cars so you can judge, I drove at least one which was definitely below par and another that the brake mod and 385bhp upgrade.. I think they can be tempramental if modified badly, brakes need routine TLC, engines are bullitt proof, don't trust main dealers, you need the experts....

Do your homework, there is a lot of experience out there, just browse some of the forums, S2's included, they share many common parts....

Good luck..
