How to make your RS2 fast!!!

Post by hiltron » Mon May 17, 2004 11:01 am

I have read so many articles on getting more power, acceleration out of the RS2. I started thinking about doing mods. The more I read the slower my RS2 felt. After I bought my RS2 I thought it was quite slow for the hype, as I had been driving in a Caterham with a Rotary motor in it- WOW. So my RS2 felt quite slow. I found the solution to my speed problem the other day. I went for a drive in a Ferrari 308 and I tested a Nissan 350Z. I had a substantial drive in each. They felt really slow... extremely slow. When I got back into my RS2... WOW...awesome... now that felt like power. So I was happy, no thought of mods again. I know my standard RS2 is fast enough. I even went for a drive in a Porsche 911 Carrera. That didn't even have the acceleration of my RS2. It costs about 5 times my car, and the consoll is plasticy.---- I must just not go for a drive in that Caterham again!---then my car will stay fast enough.
So go and do some test driving, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Back seat driving is a problem in my RS2!
Kids keep saying: Go faster dad, go faster.
I give them the odd surge in second gear- they love it.

My wife has been quite pleased with RS2 in her everyday driving (urban traffic). At first she thought it was too slow in low revs but after a week of driving she's got used to it and likes it very much. After all it has MTM 380+ set up with quite big turbo wich wakes up at 4 krpm. When looking that from the perspective of her former car 200 20v tqa in MTM stage2 setup (wich gave plenty of low rev grunt) it is quite understandable to get a comment like that.

Only down side has been its thirst for high octane, 16 l/100km in urban trafiic...

When talking about whether a car is fast or not it is very good to have your butt-dyno calibrated regularly in a slow NA car. For that purpose I use my mothers B4 2.3 10v quattro.

P.S. RS2 is HER car and she's the one who drives it every day. My job is to keep it in good condition and give it some WOT-treatment every once in a while...
