So where are all you RHD owners?

Post by jeremyc » Fri Mar 05, 2004 10:08 am

As some of you may know I've been informally trying to put together a list of RHD RS2s and their owners with the intention of perhaps trying to organise a meeting.

So far I've got a rough list of 45 cars (some of which may be duplicates ) of which about 15 or so owners have contacted me.

So, who have I missed? Anyone else on here? I know about:
cobstar
alain laing
RS2_russ
MikeS
scillyisles
DAVIDP20V
DaveS
PHIL_2
Mark
Glyn

and I'm not sure whether robo and RS2Kim have RHD or LHD models.

Feel free to email or PM me if you're a lucky owner.

Jeremy

Hopefully your call will bring a few more out of the woodwork - LOL.

You might also want to visit www.s2forum.com as there seem to be quite a few RS2 owners on there too. One was being broken for spares recently :-(

jubjub has a very nice RHD Ragusa Green RS2 - don't usually go for green cars but it's gorgeous.

Hey I don't think there are any RS2s on the Scilly Isles - the only island with reasonable roads there is St Mary's and you'd be lucky to get the car out of 3rd gear on the island.

My Cape Town RS2 is RHD, as are the other 4 that I can actually vouch for here (I know at least 8 were imported in 1996, maybe as many as 20).

I presume our New Zealand member's is also RHD, and he knows of 20 or so.

That extends the "Scilly Isles to Scotland" reach a little...If we're going to get together then, shall me meet halfway, say, Kenya..?

Good to hear from you Ralph!

Do you know if these were personal imports, or through Audi?

Can you send me any details of the four you know of so I can add them to the list (colour, interior etc.). Also, are the cars the same specification as the UK RHD ones?

The 3 polar silvers are the same -
3 spoke steering wheels,
black leather interiors,
Aircon, but not climate control.
No side panel repeaters.
Mine hasn't got railings, but the others have.

I've seen the Blue one around town but don't know much about it. I've now seen another Johannesburg-based RS blue for sale on the local Audi club website (its the only RS2 posting so I haven't bothered to join this).

An Audi dealership imported them in Cape Town, but "to order" Apart from the railings, specs seem to be the same though. Mine was one of at least 2 that were imported by the ad agency that had the audi contract (I've only had it a year, 2nd owner). My colleague's was ordered by him via Audi - FYI its now for sale for R210,000 (GBP17,000), excellent condition, unmodified, one owner, FSH(Audi) and 150,000kms)

I could probably get some proper details via the dealership in order to contact other owners, and via the performance car garage I'm going to take my car to now, as I know he works on a Blue one (the same one perhaps...) The SA cars will generally be in excellent condition - they were very expensive cars in 1996 when our currency was taking a particular pounding.

I'd be quite keen to rustle up details on all the SA cars, as they make up quite a significant part of the c.200 RHD cars worldwide. The idea is great - especially as time rolls on.

Exactly what details are you going to put in the database...eg VIN numbers (is there any value in such detail?) Please let me know.

I'll keep as much detail as the owners are happy to let me have!

Initially I've just been trying to get enough detail to let me uniquely identify each car (combination of colour, interior, specification and registration is a good start). I wonder if there is a way of identifying build number?

Thanks for the information so far - anything else you can find out would be great! This being the tenth anniversary year of production starting it would be nice to try and find all of the remaining examples if possible.
