Hi Timucin,
All that most tuners recommend I think is to stick with the standard coils (low and stiff enough!) and replace the dampers. The other thing is to replace the mounts with "blue" ur-Quattro numbers for increased wear/reduced movement.
I recently had all this done (using Bilstein dampers - highly regarded) and am very pleased with the results. Old dampers were not leaking, but car felt floaty and yet crashing over/through bumps/potholes. Now feels much better glued to road, yet much softer over irregularities, as would be expected by damper replacement.
Handling now fabulous again. I don't think Porsche would have gone for double-wishbones, etc without putting a flot of their time into setting it up afterwards and I think the standard set-up is as close to perfect as I have ever known.
Hope it helps, and I'm only too glad to help out someone SO dedicated to their RS2. I thought I was nuts about mine, but I would be sorely tested by all your trials and tribulations - good on you.

Hi Russ,
do you have the Bilstein numbers for the shocks? Are the urquattro mounts a direct bolt on? If you have that part number handy as well I'd appreciate it.
Mine's riding with replacement Boges, OK in bigger bumps but a bit too soft in small or lower speed undulations. Great balance in the chassis, wouldn't want to mess it with after market kits.

Guys,
would love to help but am actually in Hong Kong for a few months (no driving my RS2 ).
However, I got the work done by AM Cars of Ilminster, who are ur-Quattro specialists (and good ones at that). They would I am sure give you the numbers of all parts involved (they will probably remember doing my car as it developed other faults at the same time).
Their website has all their details at
http://www.amcarsquattro.co.uk/
Receptionist is called Marcus and he is far more than just a telephonist.
There was also some gen about the top mounts on RS2 list at
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/RS2list/
Again, sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'm 6000 miles from the receipts..!
I agree with you entirely Jani, chassis perfect as it is (check out Performance Car 1994 piece "Estate car named desire", to see how they feel about that, too)
Enjoy,
Russ

These are some part numbers if anyone is interested:
Ur quattro "blue" top bearings; 857 412 323B
Bilstein dampers; Front P30-3006 (Sprint series). No rear listed.
Koni dampers (externally adjustable rear); Front 86-2086 SPD1, rear 8210-1160Sport.
The Koni's are extremely well developed for the RS2, they both have rebound adjustment, ride comfortably and have extremely good damping control.

I want to replace my dampers with KONI's. What is the difference between SPD1 and SPD2 codes on the front dampers. Koni suppliers say SPD1 dont exist.
When I install front dampers what setting should I install them on, to match up with rears. I dont want to install and have to change from medium to hard. Anyone who has experience, tips will be great.
Can the original dampers be serviced?-- ie. re-oiled and re-gased.

The SPD2 is a later development for the fronts - these are superbly well sorted dampers. Common practice is to set them at 50% fronts and 60% rear. This will be rather firm, but is still comfortable enough. The rears are externally adjustable so you can change those without removing them - the fronts will be fine at 50%. I'm surprised not more RS2 owners have used these dampers, they transform the handling.

What shocks come standard on the RS2?
Some articles I read say Bilsteins. But I thought otherwise.
If they are Bilsteins then I am going to service them. If they are otherwise I will go KONI route.
The more info I get before I strip down, the better.
QSD sells KONI's.

OEM Boge
Bilsteins planned but not developed in time hence confusion as info released to motoring press at time said Bilsteins.
I would go with Koni and talk to AMD or QST re settings.
I plan to go to AMD next month to do mine along with a rolling road session.

Alistair, please give us feedback on settings once you have been to AMD. I am going to order the KONI's. They will take about 5 weeks to get to S Africa. Ta.

I have just received my KONI's and want to install. What is the best setting. Quattroturbo said 50% front and 60% rear. Is that 60% from full soft or from full hard? The way I read it, 60% from soft. So rear will be harder than front. ?????? Any extra feedback will be great. Can't wait to test these things out.
Went for a out-drive along with a friend and his 308 Ferrari the other day. I creamed him on acceleration but he creamed me in fast sweeping corners. I feel my old shocks just cant keep up.

Hi Hilton
Thanks for the Q Bond tip will try it soon.
I have Konis on the S2 set to 50% you can make it 60% so rear is harder. This will reduce the understeer but may make the Avant a little too hard if you carry family around alot, especially on our B grade roads.
You should have been able to cream the 308 on the corners so maybe your Bilsteins are shot.
BTW. Its a good idea to change the Top Mounts as well. The Audi Clud SA guys did a group buy from VAGPARTS.COM recently. Gandalf is our Technical specialist on the S cars and would be able to help on exactly which one suits the car best.
