Is the frame to your bonnet grille painted or not?

The more I see RS2's the more I notice that some have got the frame of the bonnet grille painted body colour (see Mark's with his HID light demo) and some have just been left black (see Timucin's recent post). In the brochure & and on the cover of the instruction manual it is painted body colour, but on some of the cars in magazine road tests it is unpainted black.
Was it just a case of hit and miss (sorry Timucin, no offense meant)and on what day your car went down the production line? I can't believe thatso many RS2s have have had their grille frames replaced.
So time for a poll.

Never noticed that before. That's two new things I've learnt about the RS2 today.

My bonnet grille is black. That's on a 1994 M reg RHD car - so it was one of the early RHD cars.

Which type do you have Glyn?

Mine was first registered August 1994 - LHD... and indeed the bonnet grille is painted. Colour on mine is Polar Silver (but you knew that )

Could it be that cars finished in RS Blue didn't have the grille painted.. and that cars finished in other colours had the grille painted?

That just it, mine is black and also Polar Silver. Build date Sept/Oct 1994 & first registered 4/1/95.
The one on the cover of the instruction manual is RS Blue and that is painted ! I have seen a Laser Red with a painted frame also. It really does seem to be random.

Perhaps it was some odd gag with the Porsche boys. Maybe they were sat on the assembly line saying "zees Inklish peeple zey are beink vey clevar ven zey are thinkink zat zer is ze reezns for ze colours off ze grille surrounds. It is takink zem ten jahrs zis to be realisink".

Or perhaps not

Rock on

So, so far we have all the RHD cars as black.. and the LHD cars (mine and the brochure car) as painted...

Could this be it ?
