cyclone stuff- i think i understood but...

i found the pics from rs2 list, understood the stuff but things i have to ask:
-there ie temp solution on the below picture,solution to what?
-why dont we just leave the head ventilation hose with a small filter alone?why does that air has to go back there?

-how to send the oil to pan? is there a suitable end for that or do i have to weld smthng to the pan to hold the hose?

here is the pic, you can see the breathers on valve covers,i am trying to explain.

The temporary solution was the plastic part to hold cyclone in it's position. [img]images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

You could just use the filters, but then it wouldn't be legal in EU anymore, since those fumes are not supposed to be let out. Since I have to get the car through the MOT every year, I rather keep it legal, at least the parts that can be seen.

The return to oil pan is from below, it goes with a hose and a banjo connector to oil prop, which is modified so that banjo is in between the prop and the oil pan. Sorry I have no pictures of that.

Has worked well in my case, solved the problems I had with sticky WGFV's and breather oil in general.

Sounds OK to me. Just block the turbo side head ventilation/recycling to turbo as well.

Many of the guys running over 420bhp and 600Nm with the S2 replace most of the oil ventilation with a catch tank modification and external breather. The solution copes better with oil management when running over 2bar boost which causes increased blowby passed the piston rings pressurising the crankcase. A baffled catch tank allows vetilation of the crankcase while catching most of the oil and sending it back to the sump. Baffles are essential to reduce oil loss. You will be surprised how much hardware and pipes are removed during the modification on the I-5. Can cost as little as 200UkPounds to buy the tank, hoses etc and can be fitted in about a day by a competent tool wielder. The system is technically an MoT failure but no-one checks in the UK. Pretty standard mod when running high boost on any turbo car (Cossies, RS2s, S2s etc). I have never seen this mod on a modified RS4. I don't know why: I guess it would scare the dealerships as it would then be obvious that the engine had been heavily modified.
