Has anyone fitted the HID kit from Vagparts to their car?
http://www.vagparts.com/pages/HID_install.htm
If so how have you found it and how did the install go?
Certainly looks like a good upgrade without spoiling the looks of the headlights or car.Having driven cars with standard fit Xenon's the difference is awesome and certainly something which I think would enhance the RS2 experience
Yes I am already spending money on my new car and I have not even got it home yet!

Try a search on www.s2forum.com as a number of the S2 boys have done the HID upgrade.

Your car looks gorgeous - bet you can't wait to pick it up.

I did it maybe 3 years ago. I installed a set that fits H1's, so stock bulbs can also be later reinstated. Yahoo RS2 list did a group purchase later, the kit was quite good.

Wouldn't want to live without xenon anymore.

That's decided then.
One of the first things on my list to do.
Anything else I should be considering?
I think I will want to leave the car in standard tune, at least until I have had a good long time to get used to it. I think the OE look is spot on with the RS2 so I certainly want to keep it looking that way. But if there are any other sympathetic updating modifications I would like to do those - like the HID light upgrade.
My car really is in very good condition already, but I plan to bring it up to as new condition as it certainly deserves it. Having said that, apart from a new boot carpet I don't think that will involve a lot.
I have got my own sort of advent calender going, counting down the days.

I know what you mean about counting the days... when I was waiting for mine to clear it's customs and inspection paperwork (mines was imported from Austria).. I had to wait 2 weeks... it felt like an eternity!

The HID laps look like a good idea.. especially since half the year it's dark... and the standard H1s don't seem to be able to light much up anyway.

I've put them on my list too...

Here is how my list is standing at the moment:
new boot carpet (slight bald patch on existing one in one corner)
HID light upgrade
tidy up engine bay - replace any screws bolts that look corroded etc.,
Samco hoses - Timucin are you sure the ADY ones are compatable?
Lupo GTI front wipers - I will transfer the ones off my Corrado
Aero rear wiper from Vagparts
Porsche centre caps - where is the best place to get these?
In-pro clear/chrome side repeaters
Cup holder
Cargo net for boot

I will get all the bits in ready to go as soon as the car arrives. Together with all the polishing, waxing & conditioning, and not to mention the driving my wife is not expecting to see too much of me in January!

So today I've placed my order... I'll report back on how hard it is to fit!

Image

H1 Retro fit Xenon HID Kit

Complete H1 retro fit HID xenon kit. Kit includes 6,500K xenon bulbs, starter ballasts, ballast brackets, leads and fittings.

Will replace the H1 lamps in the RS2 with Xenon HID kit. Since standard lighting is rather inept.

It's interesting that the company does kits for the H4 and H7 variants too..

I recently fitted the vagparts H1 kit to my S2. It is a very good piece of kit and has good instructions. It only took me 1.5 hours to fit and that included making a bracket to hold both ballasts on the one side (I don't have room on the turbo side).

Link to some pics of my fitment:

Only thing I woud add is make sure you don't shorten the white wire too much. The connector for this is on the inside of the headlight so make it long enough that you can lift the headlight out and sit it down on the ground - then you don't have to struggle getting the back off the cluster to disconnect it.

Doug,
I have read the thread on S2 Forum - thanks it was very helpful & a very neat install. Are you happy with the PIAA Xtreme White bulbs now you have had more time to try out the setup, or would advise looking into an alternative?
Cheers

The PIAA on the main beam are ok - they are a white light at distance. But for the money I was expecting a bigger improvement in brightness as well. It might be better to try and find a review of bulbs - maybe some of the (considerably) cheaper ones are as good.

The sidelightsa re a really good white light - the main beam and sidelights do look blue when switched off though - that doesn't bother me.
