... and hello from him!...

I'm new here so thought I'd introduce myself also..

My name is Mark,

I'm Scottish, living in The Netherlands. 31. Married, with a little boy, currently aged 11 weeks . I work for an American outsourcing company and am currently working at an Amsterdam Bank as an IT Architect.

I've owned a wide variety of cars, from a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle, through various 16v GTI Golfs, VR6 Corrado, Subaru Impreza Turbo, Porsche 911 Carrera etc.

I love all kinds of cars, I suppose because I love driving. Being Scottish I was brought up on very deserted, very twisty mountain roads and long sweeping A roads.. and since our public transport is shocking.. learning to drive is a necessity. Pretty soon you learn to appreciate good handling cars.

Unfortunately some of the cars I've owned have been better than others in this regard, which has led to a slightly unhealthy (for the bank balance) obsession with modifying cars. Two cars I have now, the Saab 9-3 and 9000 are examples of such. Abbott Racing of the UK (a premier Saab tuner) have worked their magic on both cars extensively and as such both cars have seen quite a bit of track action (I love trackdays and The Nurburgring), so it's probably best not to buy a car from me .

I'm a facilitator on Saabscene (http://www.saabscene.com) in the 9-3/ng900 board, run with some friends performance-saab.com and am an avid saab video maker for the saab scene.

However, the one car I've always wanted besides my unhealthy love of the 911 (which is not possible with my growing family), is the RS2. To me, this is an ideal all weather practical sports car. I've wanted one since I read the Performance Car and Top Gear reviews back in 1994... but finding a good one has been rather difficult.

However, next Saturday, I pick up my Audi RS2 Avant. It's been a long haul finding one. This one I'm importing from Austria... It will replace the Saab 9000 as main family transport. Finished in Polar Silver the car is perfectly original, even still on it's Dunlop SP8000 245/45-17 tyres (although they need replaced ) The previous owner had specified twin airbags, mahogany trim (which I could do without...) and the big brake option.

So I'll no doubt have loads of questions in the near future.

Looking forward to speaking to you later...

.. p.s. if anyone saw this on the yahoo groups RS2 list last week.. the delay in getting the car on the road is because of the lack of a European wide certificate of conformity (its a pre 1997 car).. so I'm waiting on paperwork from Audi Austria!

I saw that picture of your car, when I searched the web for pictures of polar silver RS2s... I love it.. wanted to steal it to show friends what my car would look like ... it's identical.
