Why ... ?

Post by Condor24 » Wed Aug 07, 2013 6:02 pm

Most forum posters keen on RS2s realise I am interested in this model.
Whilst I realise the model is nearly 20 years old, why are so many of these cars in the hands of their 5th or 6th owners ?

Probably the same reason a lot of RS4s and RS6s are mate, dream cars for some people. Plus they are 20 years old.

Edit, Dk beat me to it.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

I guess if 3 years is the average time someone keeps a car, then over 20 years one would expect 7 owners. However I would have thought that with specialist, limited edition cars & ones that are considered fun, there would be longer periods of ownership.

I have had my 996 for 9 years and my RS6 for 10 years. So I guess I am not the average driver.

Fuel consumption on the RS2 averages about 19mpg, so I think that rules it out as a daily for most people. Saying that I have had mine for over 7 years, but my mileage is 3k pa. I don't think I will ever sell mine, it's a great car.

Some people are just serial car changers - posters on car forums tend to be like that. I, however, have owned my RS2 since new as it was built specially for me.

They are still awesome cars. Personally I'd prefer one over a B8

I am still very keen to get behind the wheel of an RS2 with a view to buying one. I think they look 'iconic'. My RS6 is 10 years old & with all the negative comments about 'straight line barges', I find mine handles superbly well. Its low down turbo blast just annihilates everything I overtake. I am just worried the RS2 will not be instant enough for me & perhaps the steering may be a little sloppy as it is a 20 year old car. Any thoughts ?
