Last minute change of plan
I was already to meet up tomorrow & hopefully buy the Laser Red RS2 from Leamington Spa. I had run it through an HPI check which showed no hidden nasties.I had spoken to BRM who had recently serviced the car and who had had the car on their books for 4 years or so, very sound car maintained regardless of cost etc. I had even got a banker's draft made out payable to the owner for what I was willing to pay (leaving room for some cash for battering). But now I have forgone the deposit I had paid the owner for another car
The reason for this sudden loss of money is hopefully not a loss of sense. I was just browsing the Autotrader this morning & found a Polar Silver RS2 with 74,000 miles up for £13,995. The dealer is a very reputable outfit I had previously bought a car from about 10yrs ago & sells "specialised cars" - Porsche, Ferrari, Mercs & other interesting stuff. As it was only 12 miles up the road i though I better go & check it out. Initially I was very suspiscious with the low price & 5 owners! When I got there the guy said the price on Autotrader was an error & it should have been £14,995. However, they would honour that price & change the cambelt which they knew was due but sell it otherwise as it stood. On inspection the car looked very clean and straight, tight panel gaps, no dings, paint in very good order, no smoke on start up from cold, big file of history from new, interior in very good order etc. The 5 owner thing turned out to be a demo and two owners - the second guy who owned it initially bought with one of his companies, then sold it a while later to another of his companies and then sold it to his wife (all paper to prove this)- sounds like a bit of constructive tax avoidance!
For the £14,995 the dealer would do a full service, replace both front discs & pads, repair a couple of minor stone chips on the leading edge of the bonnet, refurb one of the alloys that had some minor kerbing, replace on of the driveshaft boots that looked cracked but no apparent leak, replace front strut top mounts, aswell as 12mths MOT, 12mths car tax & a 12 mth warranty, aswell as replace the cambelt. All sounded like a good deal. After some further negotiation managed to get them to increase the warranty to 48mths - a fully inclusive policy including parts & labour, with any one claim up to the full value of the car (£15K). I spent a long time checking the small print for any hidden exclusions & there were not any. Only proviso is to get the oil & filter changed by a VAT registered garage every 6mths. Eventually settled on a price of £15,250 including the 4yr warranty and a free next oil change service at 6mths with home collection & return. I thought this was a good deal so I went for it
I feel happier about the colour - Polar Silver is really subtle unlike the Laser Red. I also have the peace of mind of knowing that the engine, gearbox, turbos, diffs etc are covered for the next 4yrs.
Deposit paid I plan to collect the car fully prepared in the new year, so as to get a full 12mths on the tax. Can't wait - going back to look at it again tomorrow, and probably next week & the week after.....
Pics will follow.
Still a big thanks to Matt who checked out the Laser Red RS2 last weekend on my behalf and everyone else on the forum who has shown an interest

Ah swine, saw your car on Friday at 3:00 and went back on Saturday morning (had to get permission from t'other half) only to be told it had been sold. Great car and a great deal (and also a lesson on grab something when you see it rather than dithering around). If you're local to Horsham may see you on the roads in the New Year (no doubt with a huge grin). All the best.

Sorry you missed out.
But I am very glad to get the car, Duncan the salesman said he had someone else very interested, so thought I better not wait too long.
If you would be interested in a Laser Red RS2 I know where there is a very good one for sale, I have even done a HPI check on it!
I live in the Worthing area so you may see me on the A24 in the New Year

Picked up the RS2 yesterday and have not stopped grinning since
What a car - I am addicted to that 2nd gear acceleration.
Actually make that the performance in any gear. Used quite a lot of 98RON Unleaded getting my fixes though
The wife went all giggly, in a Vicki Butler-Henderson kind of a way, when she had a go saying it was better than sex! Obviously a great compliment for the car but not sure how I feel about that
When I can stop driving it and it is standing still for long enough I will take some pics. However, that may be some time yet.

After one week of RS2 ownership I have given my car it's first wash - it had got rather dirty since I had picked it up.
Despite the dull weather I took some photos:
