To Mod or not to Mod.? that is the question.
Back to topic I have looked at the tuning options. By and large most of the options ( ie chip/remap) lose the big bang at 3000rpm and change the engine character. I dont want to lose that silly grin factor.
Of course if you go OTT with bigger turbo etc you can recreate this at 400bhp but you have spent big bucks.
There is no right or wrong answer but try before you buy.
I got a lot of sense out of AMD who run 2-3 RS2 at present. I am popping down there in August for konis and a RR session(without remap unless to problem solve).

RS2 'an estate car named Desire'
Mine is at AMD as we speak for a new (M40 valve??!!) £ 40, and RR and 4 Wheel alignment. So far I am convinced to keep mine standard. By the way AMD dont do engine mods any more for RS2 if you dont know that already l. I am going to go for Konis at some point though. Do these come recommended by anyone ? or is there a better alternative. Still would like to know if anyone has a short shifter fitted.
I bought my car with a Wetteraurer chip fitted by the previous owner (only other minor mod was a free-flow exhaust). The chip gave 245kW and 470nm, and at 3000rpm the kick was brutal - you actually couldn't bring the power on smoothly if you wanted to... But I also had a fuel economy of 50litres/100km... After removing it I get 3 times that. Luckily the previous owner gave me the original chips. The car is now alot smoother, although at first it felt terrible - I even thought that perhaps the turbo wasn't spooling as the kick at 3000rpm has virtually gone completely. The car had been smoking on hard acceleration which has now stopped, which is the reason I had it changed. The mechanic reckons the mapping had somehow gone wrong (or was never really right). The chip was actual sending so much fuel through, most was unburnt...there was more fuel in the oil than oil. Hopefully I fixed it before any bore wash occurred.
What can I do with this Wetteraurer chip...any point in sending it to Minhea for a fix? Is it cost effective?
The other potential problem was the lambda sensor. I'd been running leaded as the previous owner had advised (cats removed), but my mechanic said that this was wrong as it still had a lambda sensor and the lead could have stopped the sensor from reading and hence getting the mix wrong. So I got a new sensor....perhaps I'll never know if it was the chip or the sensor or both... Now running ("super" higher octane) unleaded again and saving the planet (although still no cats so expecting no Nobel prizes)
I also wonder if it was the extra power that cracked my turbo housing...
Finally, the mechanic (I know NOOOTHIING) tells me you can get a device that allows you to switch between 2 chips at the touch of a button...kinda hyperspace button - would make the modern "sport mode" a bit mickey-mouse...anyone know about that?

Not necessarily. Know of one other where a crack was found on turbo housing and given lead time of several months on a replacement owner had it inspected/repaired. Car still going strong. Turbo repair company thought that the crack could have been there from new.ralphb wrote:I

Sorry for the late reply.
I have not been driving the RS2 as I am waiting for the agents to import the radiator which they say will arrive in another 2 weeks.
I will be at Limnos DBN road in Belville near Tyger Valley with some Audi and Scooby guys on SAT 10:30am can you pop round and join us for coffee. You can drive the RS2 then if you like or we can meet elsewhere, I will call u.
Rgds

Hi everybody!
I'm taking my girl apart at the moment. This is what I'm gonna do:
01. New bushings all round (powerflex + blue urquattro)
02. New wheelbearings
03. KW coilovers ver. 2
04. 322x32 original front brake upgrade
05. New 3" exhaust
06. New filters everywhere
07. Get the car painted in the org blue colour
08. Perhapes change the gearbox (since mine is an early '94)
09. New rims 18x8 with 245/40 18"
10. Cange some of the interior that is worn, new lighter bucketseats in front
11. Change parts that I find to be worn as I go along
12. Remove the airconditioning (not working, save some weight)
13. Give the engine a workover and some more grunt???
14. Hopefully pice the whole thing together again in the end
15. And then enjoy.....
