At last a chance to communicate with RS2 ownwers!! I've spent the last 7 years on my own!!

Ragusa Green RS2, 130k, loved to death, really hacks off Porsche Carreras at Porsche GB Club Track Days...

Endless aggro with brakes though (squeal & vibration), any ideas? thinking of getting Audi Drilled, or scored...

Hi There,

Around 8 RS2's came to New Zealand in 1995. I believe these were 1996 MY. I have one of them - Laser Red, factory standard with 46,000 miles. Our cars were different from Europe/UK in that they dont have the front guard side repeaters and had the cats removed (i.e. "dirty"). This was so they could run on our leaded fuel (sold till 1996). I have a 993 that is also "dirty". Our cars may be a tad loader than the UK but Im not sure they make much more power....

I know of two RS Blue, two silver and two black cars in New Zealand. I suspect our cars were made in a single run, possibly for South Africa as Australia never got any.

My damn brakes squel though as well and its driving me nuts!!

Jeremy,

I would like to discuss how we can move this forward.

Cheers,

Hi there.

I've just become the proud owner of an RS2. There were either 8 or 10 RS2's brought into South Africa. Another belongs to my boss (silver), and I often see an RS blue driving around Cape Town.

Mine's silver with 135000kms on the clock, but in perfect condition with a FSH. Previous owner changed to a wetteraurer chip, K&N filter and free flow exhaust. Claims output slightly higher at 245kW, but with 470Nm of torque. All this technical stuff is, I admit, only just beginning to mean anything to me.

Having just taken delivery, I'm still paranoid (and aware of my total lack of knowledge), so can anyone set my mind at ease?!

1) At very low speeds the car seems to move laterally over bumps. The seller (seemingly decent bloke, gave me 1 hour lecture before parting with it) says its probably a characteristic of the 4WD system - he was vaguely aware of what I was describing, and was probably beginning to regret selling it to someone who had pitched up in a 4WD pick-up)

2) Also brakes (again at low speed) seem to make a very slight grinding-type noise - but again seller says there's plenty of wear left and it is a characteristic of high performance brakes.

Finally, there were no roof railings fitted. Were they standard or optional? The others I've seen have them, but I've seen one or 2 pictures on RS2 sites without.

Look forward to learning more - certainly enjoying every moment. Although God knows how I'm going to move my mum's fridge...

Ralphb

1. Car should not move laterally over bumps. If it does this indicates some problem. Get your Audi dealer to check it out.

2. The front discs /pads are prone to corrosion and after washing/rain etc the first couple of depressions will generate a grinding sound until the corrosion is removed. Corrosion also tends to effect the edges of the discs where the pads don't touch and will build up which can also be another source of this noise. Your audi dealer can remove this corrosion. I assume that the discs are not scored which would be visible and would be another source of noise.
3. All the UK ones came with roof rails as standard - I would therefore have thought that all other right hand drive cars would have come with them as standard. However maybe the original owner ordered it without roof rails. This was certainly possible as I ordered mine with a different spec to the other UK ones.
Hope this helps.

No, I don't know Andre, but I'll probably be hooking up with a club pretty soon, so perhaps I'll run into him.

Got some answers on some of my questions as a result of my boss taking my car for a spin (in fact at 130kph around some of the corners I'm surprised it wasn't literally a spin - certainly understood what the car is capable of - and how much I've got to learn! ). He didn't pick up any difference in either the steering or the brakes compared to his RS2, so I'm much relieved.

I'd like to get some views on the chip, but I'll post a seperate thread.
