Shocks choice...is it good ?

Post by VaudiGR » Sun Aug 21, 2005 9:14 am

Hello everyone,
I would sometime soon like to replace the shocks and springs on my RS2 due to the fact that shocks havent been changed for more than 90.000km.Springs are H/R lowered but unfortunatelly due to the scrapy roads here in Greece you end up damaging your car,or driving 30km/h so not to hit anything with the front bumper or the catalystis under the car.

I was thinking of getting the OEM springs back on the car,but im not sure about the shocks.
Which is the best choice as to make the car nice for a trip, not floaty, but yet have a good grip on the turns?
my view were the Bilstein sport(yellow)shocks.

Has anyone else tried something like that?Any opinions?
thanks

IMHO I would go stock springs and shocks. I do think it was a well sorted setup. I enjoy standard springs with koni shocks but stock allows you to fit and forget rather than fiddling with shock settings.

I agree with Alastair - I currently have Konis with standard springs and have been unable to get the rear setup correctly - I still get bump steer and a jolt on bad bumps. My Audi dealer has got my new standard rear shocks in stock and I'm having them fitted next week along with Powerflex front ARB bushes.

This has been discussed before but what setting do you have on them at present. You mentioned 1/4 from stiffest c/w me 1/4 from softest. It is just that bump steer suggests it is too firm from my past experience.

The Koni shocks are'nt adjustable for stiffness - the adjustment is for rebound speed. My Audi dealer has adjusted them from slowest rebound speed to quickest rebound speed and on all settings I get bump steer and a slamming sound over speed bumps. I think it was super-q who suggested that the Konis I have, have 25mm less travel than standard shocks which is causing the problem. This is apparently why Konis work best with lowered springs.
Given this situation, I've decided to revert to standard rear shocks whilst still running the Konis on the front. I've also decided to decrease the front roll by fitting Powerflex ARB bushes on the front - I'll let you know how I get on.
