Window trim corrosion

Post by alastairg » Mon Jul 11, 2005 6:05 pm

Just noted a small area at base of rear window rear black metal trim (just above weather strip) is bubbling.
On closer inspection this has been touched up before very well as you cannot notice it unless you get the light right.
Has anyone done this before and know the best paint to use after sanding back. Ideally one of these rust treatment paints I guess.

Or can you replace the trim ?

I think PeteRS2 (on S2 forum) had the same problem - there is a thread there. He got the job done professionally in the end, removing rear window etc. I also have a very small area I am keeping a close eye on in the same place.

I trhink that was the tailgate. This is the rear passenger window trim adjacent to the c pillar.

Ah! Didn't read it properly. I have a small spot on the tailgate like Pete, but not that bad at present.

I have just ordered new ones from vagparts £23 each. You need rivets @ 24p each which is the catch. Martyn has posted a nice picture to explain all on S2 forum
