boost gauge for RS2

Post by DamoM » Wed Feb 23, 2005 2:35 pm

Has anyone fitted a boost gauge to their RS2. I was considering a remap and think that the gauge would be imperative!

Had had mixed reviews on various remapping companies. Has anyone had any good (or bad!) experiences that they could share with me?

Check out MRC developments UK via S2 forum. I will be getting a remap this week so ask me next week. The major players fit chips with new maps rather than remap YOUR car.

Is Mihnea doing your car? I understand that he is very difficult to get hold of? Do you have any contact details for him? He has been the one that has been consistently reccommended.

I'm also due for a mapping session with Mihnea soon so will report back when it's done.

He is moving to the UK in the near future and setting up in the UK so he will be easier to get hold of then. he has done my car for me too and knows his stuff.

I have a combined EGT and boost gauge fitted in my S2. I prefer an analogue gauge when tuning though but day to day the eletronic gauge has overboost and over temp warnings which is all i need to know when i am driving around.

Where did you get a combined EGT and boost gauge - that is exactly what I want!

I bought mine from SPA design http://www.spa-direct.co.uk/instruments/dualgauges.htm

http://www.spadesign.com/design/dualgau ... meters.htm

the kit includes an electronic boost sensor and EGT probe. If you do a search on the S2forum there are pictures of the installation.

I mounted the boost sensor into a spare hole in the inlet manifold and EGT probe after the turbo on the downpipe.

Well I have had the Mihnea custom remap. Transforms the car. It pulls like a train until aerodynamics influence things and is so much more responsive.
The custom re map in its self is an experience with multiple sensors to monitor EGT, lambda, intake temp allowing safe re profiling of boost and fueling maps.
I would recommend Mihnea/MRC tuning UK without hesitation as with a UK base follow up is going to be easier and they will offer the full service/tuning package.

Glad you're pleased with it Alastair. I'll be asking for the same transformation when mine is done next week. I forgot to ask at the w/e if you're going to the RR shootout @ Interpro ?

Remap

Post by AAH! » Wed Mar 09, 2005 8:32 pm

Mihnea mapped my car today and it has been transformed into a brand new ride and a better one to boot!

Yesterday Lee, Tom C and Mihnea prepped the car with a new Bosch motorsport fuel pump, a new fuel filter, replacement cam sensor and finally getting to the bottom of my long term boost problem which was the result of the cam pulley being set half a tooth to the wrong side of the mark by another garage who should have known better, which threw the car into limp home mode.

My car now drives as it has never driven before; faster with better throttle ressponse, better bottom end, better top end, less lag, smoother and more progressive through out the range, more torque, more power with boost peeking at about 1.85bar dropping to 1.2 at red line.

I left the boys as they headed off to map Pete-RS2's car and had a very, very enjoyable drive back to London in my brand new car.

I am a very happy man. :D :D :D

Yes mine was remapped yesterday by MRC too. Wow what a difference. I would echo everything Angus said. It totally transforms the RS2 with boost coming in so much earlier & pulling all the way to redline making it much more driveable. It now peaks at ~1.7 Bar dropping to 1.1 Bar at redline.

I was having great fun test driving while Mihnea was sitting next to me working his magic. It seemed to pick up in 6th gear from 2k rpm and get to 140+mph in no time.

Thanks again guys.

Another very happy man.
